I don't have much Macallan experience but had a sample of one of these editions a few years back. I was thinking it was higher strength so I could be remembering it incorrectly but it was enjoyable. This would have to be a gift bottle for me (receiving end) as I don't see myself buying it. Good to know it held up to 8year old expectations :)

The original bottle of rare cask was fantastic that I had in 2017. The newer versions are not even close of basically all of their expressions. The sherry they are using is no where as good either. Cheers

The Macallan 18 back in 1990 was an unparalleled experience. The 20th century Macallan bottlings are impossible to equal today, much less surpass. Macallan is no longer what once it was. 🤷🏼

I have the 20, 21, 22 & 23 releases and they are really good but not great. At this the price it should be great, so no more patronage from me. Even Macallan 12 year old Sherry cask here in Canada is $200....Give me a break. There are many better bottles out there at a lower price point like Tamdhu 18-year-old, Glenallachie 15 and 18. Chill filtering and added colour is a negative step in the scotch industry. I understand that Macallan doesn't add colour but they use "seasoned casks"...may as well just add colour at that point. I stick to integrity bottles now and leave the Macallans to those that want a gigantic ice cube in it while they are at the clubs.

Macallan is always overpriced. It has been successfully marketed as a luxury brand, so the price has to be high. There is quality in their products, but they are watered down and chill filtered. The last time I had the standard 12-year, the nose was wonderful, but its flavor was like water that had once sat near some Scotch whisky. Maybe I've been spoiled by hard core, cask strength independent bottlings. If I could find Macallan in that form at a reasonable price (which will never happen), I'm sure I would love it. As for the Rare Cask, I haven't tried it and likely won't unless it turns up at a bar and doesn't cost way too much. In the $300-$400 price range, there are so many other great options that I doubt this one would rise high enough on my priority list.

Extremely disappointing bottle. Maybe worth it for the crowd that buys JW Blue as a celebration bottle once a year. For serious Scotch drinkers this is an absolute waste of money. At $350 there are a ton of bottles that are just so much better and more interesting. Heck at $150 there are way better bottles
