Great review boys. The first was the Big Peat which has been around for a while. They introduced the Scallywag in 2013 and I think the Timorous Beastie was 2014. Rock Oyster was early 2015 and that was followed by The Epicurean (lowlands). They also do age statement versions, some sherried versions and other limited editions. Every year they release a Big Peat cask strength at Christmas. They recently launched The Gauldrons (Campbeltown) and a Big Peat 25. Cheers!

Ah Burns, one of the greatest human beings who ever lived. You should try out his more dirty stuff lads, you'll get a laugh. I won a Burns medal three years running when I was a kid, for reciting his works. Didn't understand it much back then, but fell in love with his poetry all over again these last few years. Seen this in my local vintners, but never went out and purchased it.

another good review...like the different evaluations and in this case criteria..I am with Andrew and consider myself an Islay fan overall, but will confess to liking Clynelish, Glenmorangie( Astar, Signet and Ealanta) and special Glendronaugh...these have a different punch to them over the fruity floral mostly get...I like to see the different palates of you guys...continue as you do

Drew spot on as usual. Would they really be putting Dalmore et al in this if they were great casks. They would be an Old Particular bottling and some of these are superb. Its all about the interesting packaging with a narrative to market a batch of underwhelming casks in their inventory which is fine given the price point here in the UK. Mark can be forgiven the score uplift given it was purchased by his wife!

There's also a lowland blend called the Epicurean which consists of Glenkinchie and Auchentoshsn...
@Scotch4Dummies6 жыл бұрын
Might be hard finding them as this and the Peat Monster are the only ones on shelves around here....
@foodquig6 жыл бұрын
I tasted it at the whisky festival last weekend and the presenter told me which store stocks it. Glenkinchie and Auchentoshan are also readily available around here even if they are not blended together by Douglas Laing. Our liquor prices may be through the roof in British Columbia, but our selection is pretty good...

If it was a blend of Glengoyne 18 and Dalmore 18 ..etc, I bet you'd enjoy it a teeny bit more, eh? ;D Thanks guys as always.

Good branding indeed but the age statement versions (18 and there is even a 21yo beastie) are better. This month or early Feb they will release a 10yo limited version because Douglas Laing is celebrating their 70th “birthday”.

Definitely interested in the age statements! But also would like to try the other "region" representations on the NASs.... ~Mark

Fyi, they also produce an 18, 21 and 40yr versions.

They did Lowlands, too: The Epicurean, but following the reviews it's the weakest of the bunch and pretty neglectable. :-) Big Peat's been around for the longest time, 2009 or more regular since 2011. Rock Oyster 2015, The Epicurean 2016, Timorious Beastie around 2014, Scallywag around 2013

Hmm... I think I disagree with you guys for the first time. I flatter myself that I can pick out the Glengoyne. 2.5 to 3 for me. They also make some age statement versions...
@Scotch4Dummies6 жыл бұрын
+The Whisky Watch AWESOME, love the contrast! Although, I did give it s 2.5 myself 😉~Mark

It depends on the night for me, Mark. Probably a 2.5 most days. For Burn Night though, it gets a solid 3.

It tasted like industrial alchol to me. More like votka, slmost no flavor, just a hard punch, I added water, same. 1/5
