Nice wee film. Congrats to your Mum. It's funny -- the film demonstrates that Scotland doesn't change; only the people do. Thanks for sharing. My grandfather was also an avid movie buff. We all lived in Glasgow back then, but most of his films are of their travels abroad -- except for one of Millport around 1970.

Thanks for posting. Brought back vivid memories of my childhood holidays at Ardtornish, on the Sound of Mull. I well remember the spectacle of the King George V, Columba and Claymore steaming up the Sound of Mull on Tobermory games day, pipe bands on deck. And my grandfather disappearing into the Mishnish Hotel for a “refreshment” …or six! Simpler times.

For a number of reasons I find your mum’s cine film interesting. Princes Street is shown with very few pedestrians as opposed to now when it’s nothing short of a Disneyesque theme park all year round. At the point that this film was shot the Forth Road Bridge had been open for barely a year. At that time pedestrians were still permitted to cross and many did so for the novelty. Eventually the number of jumpers forced the authorities to close the walkway. Sadly around 800 suicides are known to a have taken place from the bridge.

This is incorrect. You can still walk over the Forth Road Bridge to this day.

@@ComrieFilms-mr1cz I stand corrected, but I’ve tried to walk across on about three occasions and there have been barriers across stopping pedestrians and cyclists. I was told it was to stop jumpers.

Ray, you kindly replied to a comment I made regarding soundtrack however, looking for the same Tis not to be found ergo, I reply this way (oh I’m confident the prob is at my end dude, tech and I are mortal enemies it seems at times) Where was I?? Oh! Yeah re the soundtrack, no probs at all I asked only in case I had (again) mucked things up at my end ;-) Whether soundtrack or no, nothing detracts from the wonderful historical footage your mum has taken. I’m sure (tho not 100%) that the Scottish Historical society , tho it may have another title or indeed point you to another Scottish society who may very much love to have a copy of your film. Even if you point them to your channel where you have it posted that way they will be better informed re the content. Oh!! Imo, they will be delighted it has no soundtrack, (obviously if it were narrated by your mum whilst recording I’m convinced that would add greatly to their interest, in my humble opinion Ray) Thanks again for the beautiful upload, now I have looked further you have some fabby content which I look forward to enjoying 😀 Cheers dude.

I've had a chuckle to myself about about how many redheads/gingers there appears to be. It's true that Scotland has a higher percentage than most countries, but I am wondering if it is artificially high here. Is it possible that in digitising the cine film (as it says in the details) AI has been used to add colour to what was originally B&W film?

@@elainemacdonald6541 😂 och nooo (read that in a Scots accent😂) The gadget used was a movie scanner. It scanned each frame from the film and created a video file by joining all the scans and playing them at the right speed. Only human intelligence was used. 😂

​@@raycleary7090 Thank you for your reply, that is interesting to hear how it was done. After watching this film I watched another cine film (The Scottish Highlands) from 1961. I felt there was a similarity in the orange tones; maybe a feature of old cine film or maybe how it is ageing? It wasn't so much seeing those who were clearly ginger including family groups, but how many brown haired people seemed to have a strongish coppery tone in the brown. I hope I don't sound obsessive, was just pondering.... Even the chestnut horses at Musselburgh Races seemed super-bright, technicolour chestnut! I really enjoyed the film; it felt very familiar but simultaneously a long time ago. I was a child in the 60s/70s and the clothing styles for all ages is just as I remember. I'm sure everyone's wardrobe was much more limited than today, no film/TV franchise clothing for kids, the showerproof coat and head-square combination for the women, and more formal suit, shirt & tie or sports jacket, trousers, open-neck shirt for the men. Most folk looked older than their years, at least in comparison to current times. It looks as if folks appeared "young" until about 25 then instantly transformed into middle age - but an "older" looking middle age than folk today. The traffic was so light then and the vehicles look so dated too. It seems strange that such familiar sights are nearly 60 years old. I must stop commenting now as I figure that I must be sounding like a bit of an old git. I hope you derived much happiness from updating your family films and sharing them with others.

@elainemacdonald6541 Hi Elaine Thank you for your lovely reply. My mother would be so happy to see your reaction. I'm glad I was able to make her work available to everybody else. There are other family movies that she made like a family trip to Bective Abbey, a ruin in Co Meath -we know who to blame for it being a ruin 🙄🤴. all seven of us started exploring the ruin when a ghost 👻 appeared to different groups of us and everyone was frightened. My dad was reading the newspaper and didn't want to know. She appeared behind him, tipped his shoulder and disappeared. Eventually he got up and went looking with the kids. We cornered the ghost and it was my mother all the time 😂. She did a great job planning, filming, and editing the movie. We do not have the original film, only a poor quality VHS recording that was digitised onto a DVD. Thank you again for commenting on her work
