While in Inverness there is a great tour of Loch Ness that stops at castle Urquhart, the gift shop and then back to Inverness. It was great! Also don’t forget the boarders. Dumfries has some great history! I also love where my ancestors are from on Lock Lomond. I love Scotland and although I lived there for 4 months studying abroad, I missed so much.

We spent 15 days in Scotland, flew into Glasgow, rented a car, and drove straight to Stirling where we stayed for 3 nights. A lovely town, where we could take our time, recover from jet lag, and explore Sterling Castle. Also get a little practice driving. We then drove to Ft William where we stayed for 5 nights - using this as our base to explore as much as we could around the Highlands- we hit all the places mentioned in this video, and more. After Ft William, we drove to Dunoon as stayed 5 nights there. Stayed in a small hotel right on the beach - gorgeous views. This was our base for south western Scotland. My grandfather was born in Edinburgh; he was from the Clan Morrison, and it was such an amazing trip, driving around, looking at all the ruins, castles, burial sites, little shops, waterfalls, lochs, etc... Very easy driving around (we put 1400 miles on our rental car).

Another point to note is that if you become a paid member of Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland this will permit subsequent free access to a massive number of sites. Entry fees tend to be high at the door so this is the best approach to save a small fortune. You can get family passes. See their websites for more info. ;)

Probably the best short review I have seen yet. I liked this one. You covered a fair bit without waffling on.kept it interesting. If you are heading from Edinburgh to Stirling you might want to take a small detour and head over the Forth bridge to the ancient capitol, Dunfermline. It would maybe take you half a day to take in Andrew Carnegie's birthplace and museum, the royal palace and monastery, which fell into ruin after James 1st became James 6th of England too, and moved to London. Adjacent to the palace is the 900 year old Norman abbey (with some more modern parts) where King Robert The Bruce and 11 other Kings and Queens are buried. You could also take in the Scottish Carnegie hall if you have time. With an early start you should fit this and Stirling in no problem.

And you've convinced me every which way but Sunday that we gotta visit the Shetland's and Orkney's. Look on a website "walkthehighlands" one of the best is Lairig Ghru. You can't beat Argyll though it's amazing. It's got it all and more coast line than France!! Stay in B&B s you will love it. See Loch Eck, Inveraray and head to Oban, gateway to the Isles. Eat at the seafood shack. Go on the Seafari, it will take you through the 3rd largest whirlpool in the world, take the ferry to Mull and stay in Tobermory. Visit Iona a truly spiritual experience. Come back to the mainland via the Applecross peninsula and have seafood while you wait for the Coran ferry. I could go on and on. Where ever you go you will be welcome. Enjoy

Some great advice here mark, thanks! Yours sincerely, a proud Scot. Couple of other wee nuggets of tourist advice: * Membership to the National Trust for Scotland will save you money on entry fees to heritage sites and parking * BROWN roadsigns are always for tourist destinations. * Bank of England notes can be used in Scotland and vice versa. * Some of the best things to do in Scotland are outside of the major cites. Example; Organised adventure activities, Castle Visits, Hillwalking, Skiing, Nature Treks This doesn’t take away some of the great stuff the cities have though. Cheers Mark for the great advice you’ve given over the years!!

It's a shame you always overlook Dumfries & Galloway. It's arguably far nicer than the Highlands, which are rather barren in comparison to the variety and lushness of D&G. There is still lots of impressive scenery, but there are more trees and forests and there is also a lot of coastline, so there are beaches too. There are also many little scenic towns and villages, many of which have been designated as having their own specialty - such as "food town", "book town", "art town", etc.

Disagree bud. If you land in Edinburgh drive North via Fife Costal route to St Andrews then up the coast to Aberdeen, perhaps heading in land to Balmoral, Braemar (Royal Deeside) en route. Then from Aberdeen head west to Inverness and as North then as you will before heading west against toward the Hebrides. (Note the 500 route) From there you can head toward Glasgow, then Stirling and back to Edinburgh. The better alternative is to fly in to Glasgow as it tends to be cheaper for flights and accommodation. Then do the reverse of this route. The central highlands & Perthshire is a whole different trip as is North of Inverness. Mind do Torridon on the way back down on the west though. The absolute must is Fife! ;)

Stevie Gibson Normally I would hear my mates from Inverness pronounce it ‘ur-kit’ but my granddad always pronounced it ‘uh-kirt’ cause he was more traditional 😂

@@evanmacdonald9632 hehehe. I think it might depend on what part of Scotland you're from. For such a small country, the Glasgow twang is different from Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen etc.

The weather in England is better, the cities in England are less impressive but both Scotland and England have spectacular views, everything is a lot closer to get to in Scotland. In terms of the people, northerners are lovely southeners aren't as nice in England, but you'll get dodgy/sketchy and nice folk everywhere, total mix
