I found you from your SL500 stuff (R231 SL500 owner) and have just watched all of your Scotland trip videos. Yes, you can do it in one day. We live just north of Bristol and have stayed in Plockton (near Kyle of Lochalsh) for a week several times in May/June, 550 miles. First time we overnighted in Carlisle. After that we left at 4.00am, (packed the car the night before) the sun is soon up, M5 is deserted, past Birmingham well before the breakfast rush hour, light traffic on that awful stretch from Brum to Lancaster, Carlisle about 9.00-ish for a fuel and food/coffee stop. Past Glasgow before lunchtime and you’re well into the highlands by the afternoon, Arrive Plockton about 4.00pm. Total stops 1.5 hrs, driving time 10.5 hours but very relaxing due to mainly deserted roads at the start. Same on the return but you do get into a lot of traffic by Birmingham around lunchtime. BUT you get the fabulous bonus of sunrise over the highlands (Glencoe if you’re lucky} to set you off on your way home. Best, TonyS

@@dhdove I live in the Forest of Dean, so quite close and similar distance to yourself getting to the Highlands. Sounds like a plan and one that I’d probably do if/when I repeat this trip. Agreed that Birmingham to Manchester are always the bottle necks and if you can get by them you’re normally okay. Get to Preston and then the traffic normally quietens down.
