I moved a few years ago to a cottage on part of the old Buccleuch estate close to Dumfries. I've lived on 3 continents and this is the last move, I just don't feel the need to move again. I love the history, sharing some of my time keeping a small piece of it going. I share the Dukes feelings with regard to it being a very special part of the world.

My father's name was Bruce Scott. His family left the Scottish Borders yo come to NZ in the mid 1800s. His family, and me too have a deep spiritual attraction to hills. The biblical phrase "I will raise my eyes to the hills from whence comes my strength" was oft quoted by my farming family. My generation (circa 1950+) left the farms to work in the cities. Fortunately NZ is a hilly country and we don't have to look far to see a hill to sigh over.

I’d love to visit New Zealand. A lot of similarities to Scotland.

I almost want to start looking for a property in the Borders. I am, however, very content in a river valley in Yorkshire.

Spare us an acre please Dukey. So i can build a modest low impact dwelling, have a cow to milk and grow some veg. Whats the harm?

Ask him, but a humble man of intellect wouldn’t ask here dear
