Driving on the left side: I have a simple trick: My watch is on the left side... and I tell myself: Always drive where the watch is... it works surprisingly well 🙂

I enjoyed all 5 - 2 week visits over the last five years. I hired guides every time. I would recommend because they know the particulars of each place we visited. So we definitely visited more than outlander sites including Orkney. Bummed that this year our trip to the Hebrides was cancelled due to COVID . I felt that as we visited, there is so much more than outlander

Nice job, gents ... although I live in the USA, I am Scottish born and bred and I try to go 'home' every year. Much as I enjoy and appreciate public transportation, the best way to get around the Highlands and Islands is to rent a car. If you are used to automatic transmission then book an automatic ahead of time otherwise not only will you be challenged with driving on the left but also changing gear with your left hand! Note that car insurance can be expensive so before your trip, check if your credit card offers 'free' coverage for driving in the UK. The proviso is that you must pay for the car rental using that same credit card, i.e. you cannot pay for the rental using cash or another credit card and expect coverage from the CC company that offers coverage. Many rental cars are also diesel (great mpg) so be careful not to fill up with petrol (gasoline) or vice versa. :-)

Hello! We have a trip planned for May and it will be our second trip.. I’m trying to stay in not so touristy areas and one location is Kincraig. Can you give me some ideas for places to see besides Cairngorms? Right now the only planned location is the beach at Kinloch Laggan. Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

To the north east is whisky country so lots of Speyside distillery choices to visit - Glenlivet, Cardhu, the big new one at Macallan. Closer is Dalwhinnie Distillery. History you've got Ruthven Barracks nearby, Corgarff and Kildrummy to the east, Culloden and the Inverness sites to the north. Walks there's Reelig Glen, excellent forest walk south of Inverness and Perthshire classics like The Hermitage and Killiecrankie to the south 😉

I feel like I have found hidden treasure with this channel! Question for you from America: I'm a teacher and my husband is a skilled worker (a/c, electricity, plumbing). How difficult is it to get visas to live and work in Scotland?
@scotlanders26123 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah and thanks! Covid aside, it should in theory be relatively straightforward coming from the US as skilled workers but these are uncertain times politically and immigration has been subject to an overhaul in the aftermath of Brexit. Wishing you luck 😃

I'm wondering how difficult it is to find vegan/vegetarian food in Scotland?
@onaraisedbeach3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, David here. I'm vegetarian so can assure you that in every city or town or decent size, it's no bother at all. Edinburgh and Glasgow, as the two biggest cities, have some world-class vegetarian and vegan fare. The only time it gets tricky is when you go to small, rural pubs (often the only place to get food, aside from prepackaged stuff from grocery shops, is the local pub) where they may have 1 or 2 vegetarian dishes at most, typically mac and cheese or something equally hearty. Overall, I've never had an issue finding veggie food - though sometimes options can be a bit limited.

I took my wife to Edinburgh for the first time two years ago. She's from Toronto. She could not believe what a large variety of vegan food she could get and also the quality and volume in supermarkets.
