I vaguely remember "Finlay" from the late 80s, and it is vague not because it was so long ago but because I did most of the day in cloud and drizzle. I'd done Sgulaird in similar conditions the day before while camped in Glencoe. The weather had been set lousy for the week, so it was a case of choosing relatively simple mountains that required little navigation or great visibility. Both were much more of a head down slog encased in waterproofs than I'd have liked, but we did suffer for our Munro bagging. I couldn't believe when you said which mountain you almost came a cropper on, because my similar near fatal mistake was also on na Ulaidh, but very different to yours. It was also from Glencoe, but under full winter conditions with my old dog. All went well until the descent, which I remember started down a steep snow filled gully that for some reason the dog didn't fancy, so in the end I had to put her on the lead and pull her down the gully with me as I did a standing glissade, that I was normally pretty good it, using my axe as a brake. I stopped OK at the bottom, but the dog didn't and crashed into the back of my legs, tipping me forwards and tearing my knee ligaments! In agony I limped back down before the knee seized up, and made it back to the car and the Clachaig. But the next morning my knee was about three times normal size and I was incapable of walking anywhere, or even driving the car! A doctor in the pub checked it out, strapped it up and told me to rest it. I think it took three days before I could drive home, but I still remember feeling lucky to have only injured my knee in that crazy descent! Oh tell Gerry that I just ordered some Irn Bru jelly babies from Amazon :)

Just goes to show that we all learn as we grow older and refrain from taking the risks we did in our younger years. This was a thought provoking video with the food saga continuing with the addition of sausage rolls now. What's next on the menu. Hope Gerrys appeal for iron brew jelly babies is successful as don't like seeing grown men cry. Thanks for this one and can't wait for the next video. 😅

A very enjoyable video as always, Murray. For Gerry, Millions Iron Brew Jelly Babies are made in Greenock by The Golden Casket Group. That would explain the different spelling :) Sadly they do not seem to sell them direct to ordinary folk like us but they appear to have a special relationship with Aldi (now an Aldi core line in Scottish Stores) according to the Golden Casket Group website. Best of luck, Gerry.

Loved this journey back in time Murray! Think i speak for all of your fans when i say we are very glad you lived to tell the tale of your first experience on this mountain😊👌. It's funny, as much as we are glad to be a little wiser these days, we think we would have liked to keep hold of that confidence of youth, life and decisions certainly did seem a lot simpler back then😂. Always a pleasure to accompany you, Gerry and Frazer out and about on the snowy mountain 🏔 🌨. A fine selection of nutrional goodies going on too! 😋. The appeal reveal, classic!😂. We picked up some iron brew jelly babies in home and bargains last summer, hoping they get them in again this year 🤞. If we ever make it up to Glen coe again, I'll carry a couple of extra bags in case we ever have the pleasure of running into you and Gerry on the trail 😂👍🍬. Thanks for sharing as ever, Shell and Pete

Done similar >50 years ago. On top of Ward Hill, Hoy and the mist came down. Decided to come straight down (avoiding the cliffs) that we managed without mishap. Went past the following day and were very impressed by the slope we had negotiated. That was a lucky escape but also a good lesson.

You are absolutely right about the foolishness of youth, when you would put ketchup on everything 🙄 . Now that I'm older and wiser its got to be brown sauce with scotch egg and (bacon🥓) 😂😂 maybe mustard or piccalli with pork pie But definately not ketchup😜 . Now that the serious stuff is out the way, I enjoyed the video and hope Jerry finds the iron brew jelly babies soon ATB😉

Hi Murray. Lovely video and fantastic views. I supplied WalkwithWallace with Gold Bars (biscuits not nuggets). I have tried my wholesalers and neither does the Millions Irn Bru Jelly Babies. However, they may be sold through van sales I will check this and get back to you. Bear in mind the sweets contain artificial colours which contain E102, E122 and may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children. Have you chaps considered Vegan jelly beans?
