I was stationed at Mons barracks Feb 1957. First world war Mons, Belgium was the Brit army fist major battle with the Germans. Brit soldiers lay along the canal they had been trained in Blighty with deadly accurate rapid rifle fire. The Germans came on in hordes mowed down by the Brit soldiers to the extent German dead piled 12 high still they kept coming. Germans insisted every Brit soldier had a machine gun. Thousands of Brit & German soldiers insisted the sky over Mons was filled with angels. Brit soldiers ran out of ammo, were forced to withdraw.

When I remember that... "The Bonnie lass o' fyvie"
Been left 30 years and only one I recognised was John Mc, callum who I think is a captain now, a good bloke who was on my corporals cadre in 1988. How time flies. Miss those days.

can someone please explain the meanings the commands by the left , by the center and by the right, quick march
@midnightteapot56332 жыл бұрын
When marching you need to cover off from the man in front and "dress" on the man next to you , that just means keep in a straight line (rank is side to side and a file is a line front to rear) .By dressing by the left or right it just means you will use the last man in the right or left hand file as your point to line up on. Dressing by the center means you will line up on the centermost man (usually for the band ).
@alvindurochermtl2 жыл бұрын
@@midnightteapot5633 And also the Colour Party, as the Colour is typically in the middle, so the Colour Sergeants will take their Dressing to the Ensign at the center.

@@midnightteapot5633 The dressing is explained, thank you. How is it with the "by the right" etc? When the command "quick march!" is issued it is preceded by "by the right/left/center". How do you determine whether it is right, left or center?

Scotland won't be voting for Independence any time soon. Proportionally no other UK nation has more of its 'citizens' living in a different country than Scotland does. That should tell you all you need to know about those Jocks left North of the border.
