If we’re talking about power into the ball the thumb flick and inward knee bend helps make everything effortless!! This is why curry can shoot a three and turn around knowing it’s going in. The thumb makes for just the right amount of energy transfer into the ball with little effort from the body

Please do a Trae Young episode because there are lots of undersized point guards (like me) who would need that shooting advice, because it helps a lot to be able to shoot well when you are a short, skinny guard, and my opinion is that you didn't say that much about his technique in the breakdown video.

Scot i have a question. At about 8:34. I was just wondering why would we want to change our shot from a 1 motion from the 3 point line to a 2 motion inside the 3 point? Wouldnt having 2 different jump shots in game confuse ppl and mess them up? I get that sometimes ppl have to take the ball up at a different shot line because of the defense but they dont really train for that. Just wondering why we would want two jumpshots
@writingwithsounds6 жыл бұрын
Josiah Henry It doesn't, as one and two motion shooting is natural. The reason two motion shooting can be consistent in mid range is that it requires less power/less arch to make a mid range shot, and if u use a one motion shot, it for me at least, misses short or long. It doesn't confuse people as long as its your own muscle memory.
@josiahhenry3676 жыл бұрын
HardenTooSaucy6 yea i mean ik more elite mid range players that have 2 motions like kobe, mj etc. But i cant think of one player that has a 1 motion shot at the 3 and 2 motion shot inside the 3.
@writingwithsounds6 жыл бұрын
Josiah Henry As you could see, DLO, Damian Lillard, and even Steph at times all do this. It's all just natural body mechanics
@ScotShotBasketball6 жыл бұрын
It’s a question of balancing the needs that the game demands at varying distances from the hoop. When you are far away you need the following - strength from your legs and a quick overall shot. When you are in the mid-range you need the following: high release point/elevation to shoot over defenders who will be closer to you the closer you get to the rim. That’s why when you’re deep, you need a one motion. When you’re in close and likely to be defended, you need a two motion, high jump shot.

Everything you talked about its sooo accurate, but I think the main reason Russell has such a set point its because he is right eye dominant, opposite to the shooting hand, the same can be said with KD and has been really famous with Lonzo shot... Appreciate your work bud, keep it up!
@ximing47764 жыл бұрын
As a lefty if he really aims with the eye on the opposite side, it is really hard to mimic since general right handed people aims with their right eye.
@anthersite17994 жыл бұрын
That sucks for me I guess. (I’m right eye and hand dominant)
@bepe42794 жыл бұрын
@@anthersite1799 doesnt nessesarily mean you cant use his shot. you just need to alter the shot a little. like how kyrie irving brings it from his left side, but it does release from his right side.
@jojoprocess2820 Жыл бұрын
@@bepe4279 Sure but theres 0 reason to copy anyone's shot. Shoot the way thats best for you. Copy the things they do right like shot timing but why copy pointless and actually hurtful stuff like bringing it up the wrong side?

Another great video, ignore the idiots, keep fighting the good fight of logic and reason. There's a distinct lack of intelligence in the basketball community when it comes down to actually analysing things and discussing topics logically, it's refreshing to see a channel such as yours do that. Another analogy to the one you made is in lifting. Many people trust the bro advice of some huge bodybuilder just because he's big, whereas I'd rather listen to the tiny sports scientist that actually worked out said formula etc P.s. Shot looks wet, and just for the record, I reconstructed my shot based on a large portion of advice from this channel and it's significantly improved
@bepe42794 жыл бұрын
true. i find his videos way more informative than most coaches i find. using his mechanics also helped my shot, because i am cross eye dominant (right handed, left eye) and im not strong asf lol

Great video. Love this new series and look forward to seeing future editions. It's fascinating to see how all the relevant elements relate to each other, and after you begin building up a 'library' of complete looks at the best shooters, I predict the ability to compare across multiple players will let you and your subscribers discover new insights. I seem to have a lot of issues after I lift and practice shooting. It seems that I forget my form and because of that I lose confidence in my feet placement and stuff. However watching the video refreshed my memory a bit to use my off leg to stabilize my jump shot so I'm not leaning too much. This should help me out quite a bit. Still trying to fix my timing on my release though. I feel like I should be releasing earlier, and I have a two motion shot.
@33bigmoney2 жыл бұрын
not sure if you mentioned but today 80% players shoot forwards (the jump is slightly towards the basket) when they shoot 3s. That's what makes it much eaiser for them to shoot

First of all thank you for the vid, once again really entertaining.I think that the unique knoledge that you shared, along with the method and esthetic quality you have been able to maintain on this channel earns you the "authority" you were talking about at the end. You propose a real démonstration (hunting général terms explaining every concept) allowing us to avoid practical mistakes, and incorect theorical interprétations by ourselves. And by the way I am very curious, how did you ended disserting shooting mechanics with three years of experiance. Did you applyed some principles gathered on previous studies in another discipline ? oh that was a LOOONG blowjob ! But I have also some random points I would like you to cover if You please :Head tilt towards non shooting side (I belive curry does is)Hybrding a shoot/floater (used by players who don't shoot from close range) due (my hypothesis) to their "perfectioned for long range" upper body mechanics unadaped to "close" mid range.The difference between sraight (jodan) and relaxed (curry) wrist flexion at the end of the relelse with the shooting hand in different situation (open vs contested shot) and how each player should pick one (or both) of those skills regarding their playstyleThe drible moves used by some players to make ter jumpshot quicker and more consistant (regarding timing and handplacement , like Lillard with his pound-pull up from deep)

Really enjoyed the video. I think this series will display the level of detail that you are able to reach. I'm no shooting expert, but I do have one suggestion. You may already do this, but I didn't see it in the video. Make sure that you shoot when dribbling from each hand. I only saw you dribbling with your right and then pulling up. That could seriously limit you if someone guarding you discovers that you could only shoot off of a right hand bounce. I try to be dynamic and be able to shoot from both dribbles, but I'm more comfortable with a right-hand dribble, like it seems you may be
@ScotShotBasketball6 жыл бұрын
Well noticed. I do prefer the right hand to contact the ball first when I shoot in practice because it lets me find the seams. I feel that makes me more consistent which is good when I film those videos for instagram. I do practice off the left though (more off-camera) because, like you say, it's important to be versatile for in-game situations.
