You should have 2 jump shots, a higher set point in the mid range area and a lower from further out, higher set point means less range but you can shoot more contested so for mid range you don't need much power so a high set point will help in the mid range area

This is the best video on 1 v2 motion shots and is perfectly explained and extremely informative while others are just confusing with no context on why it’s important and when to use and even what it is at all. Thank you very much

Kobe’s shot looked even better before the finger injuries and surgery. During the early 00s his misses looked better than most player’s makes.

Reggie Miller has a more perfect jumpshot, his shot was unorthodox ONLY due to how his hands would slap afterwards, but what you do after the release is completely irrelevant. If you look at Reggie Millers form (perfect hand positioning, perfect degree angle), time of release at the peak before falling down (Ray Allen's release is AS he is falling down kinda, which is late and wrong), coming straight up and down on the same spot (Ray Allens is jumping FORWARDS, which is wrong), literally everything is PERFECT..... yeah so he slaps his two hands after release, it doesnt matter, you could do a dab, wave, dance afterwards if you want, completely irrelevant.... the ball as you can see recieves a perfect backspin.

Most beautiful and coolest looking jumpshot ive ever seen, no one shoots like MJ/Kobe. He’s one of the few that holds the ball over his head when shooting, and actually looks good doing it

You guys do understand that using footage from in game shots that went in is not proof of anything? Live NBA game is hard and theres a lot of variance, yet Lillard has some weird shots and someone can make a shot just yeeting the ball in with no spin. The point is that when the ball is in the fingertips it is in a stable consistent position, with multiple points of contact. When its in the palm it just lays there and can roll around. Thats it, its really not rocket science and obviously its better. Yes its harder for people with small hands, thats just how it is. And for the make of the video, shooting around alone might feel better with the palm, but in an actual game your momentum is going to be all over the place, if you're not focusing on stabilizing the ball, IE getting it into your finger tips, your shot is going to be wonky

There is also a 2 motion early release shot - Larry Bird is the best example - that provides that the needed leg energy for longer shots. Arguably it’s the best of both shot types.

I believe there is also a 2 motion early release option - Larry Bird being the best example - which can provide leg power for deep shots while maintaining a 2 motion release.

When Dbook jumps forward he doesn't cover a lot of space, it should be just a little jump forward because jumping too far forward is generally bad

Ray Allen had to jump because it was better defense.. if defenses intensity was emphasized in this era you would see a lot more Jump shooters.. then more of a set shot .. ray allen could shoot over played ..most set shooters have a hard time shooting over good defense..

One of the greatest shooters to ever live. He is up there with Bird, Ray Allen, and Curry as far as shooting. The issue is that many casual NBA fans look at the career shooting percentage, and don’t realize what it means. If you shoot 44% FG, and 32% from 3-point range as a SG for a 20 year career in the NBA, that is elite numbers. His TSP is even more elite. Also consider that Kobe was making shots on a routine basis that the rest of the league could not make, or couldn’t even attempt. He had many stretches of months where he was shooting nearly 50/40/90. He could have easily made that happen if he cared about numbers, and percentages. He would just play more conservative and facilitate more like he has many times in games. The only thing Kobe cared about was winning, and being there to drag his team across the finish line when he had too. He didn’t care if he had a bad night or not, as long as he made the shots that his team needed most, and winning the game. Then, after a bad night he would practice until he fixed whatever issues he had during the previous game. Then whatever team he played next would get the 50 put on ‘em.

I shoot like Ray Allen (he’s one of my favorite players) except I have a higher dip and my set point is in front and a little bit above my forehead, not on top of my head. It works great for me and I can hit 3s consistently without my shot being short despite it being a two set point shot and the lack of transfer of power from the legs. And yes you have to have the upper body strength to pull it off and that’s why I think it works for me

I have used a thumb flick for decades, and have subconsciously recognized the value of a lower set point. The big AHHA moment for me here is the angle of feet and body relative to the basket. I was a free-throw champion in the 90s, and was coached to be squared up in a set shot, so I will have to see how this change in angle affects my shot and range. Really great analysis, Scotshot. Thanks for these videos.

After injury my foot via forcing me to shoot off of weird angles to get more power, I somehow solidified the usage of the thumb flick. Two things I noticed A) I can consistently hit outside shots more, with that my shots swing or miss no close calls no nothing its either on the money or its off, like way off and secondly B) The positioning of my feet, normally as a right handed shooter, I would have my right leg forward but with the thumb flick my left leg now automatically places itself in front of my right leg to give my thumb flick extra support lol.

It depends on how tall your parents are. If there tall you probs got a bit more growing. If there not your probs almost done. I’d say depending on their height you’d be between 6 foot to 6 5
