As a school boy I lived in Barnet N. London. On the week ends I would go into work with my dad, he was supintendent for a tunneling company constructing tunnels on the Kings Cross to Scotland main line to enable four track running. Between Hadley Wood and Potters Bar. Steam trains arrive at Kings Cross would disconnet from the carriages and fresh one would connect at the other end ready for the return journey. The old locomotive would then act as the pusher for the standing start out of KC. The pusher would ease off at Hadley Woods and return to the KC steam yard. All very dramatic for a 12 year old. Thanks for braving the weather for those great shots of The Flying Scotsman. You should now get away for a dram to warm up

I was about to say almost exactly the same, in the same order (apart from the diesel...)
@WashingtonSAFC3 жыл бұрын
@@johnriggs4929 when I posted it, I meant to put a smiling face after the diesel part of the comment. But forgot to add it. Which sort of spoiled the meaning of why I had added it (which was sort of 'what a pity the diesel had to be there'), if you follow me (which I'm sure you do, because you are thinking the same as me). But what a video it is, though.

Thank you so much for an extraordinary trip down 'memory lane' . I was born in 1951 ( Robbie Burn's day ) and I have vivid memories of travelling with my dear father . From Dumfries , through to York , I believe , and others such as Oxford where my mum's family were . I remember 'urging' ( the infamous rocking back-and-forth ! ) our Austin A-70 up Beattock and Shap . Getting stuck in snow drifts and having the welcome help of some Army lads in a 'Big Bedford' . Then were was the treat ! Driving virtually parallel with the railway and waving to the Engine Drivers for what seemed miles . Aaah . I think I'll sleep well tonight . Thank you very much indeed . I feel quite indebted to you and your team . Stay safe . Kind regards . Pete .

Thanks Paul, love winter conditions but maybe not the gale that came with it this time but you do get better results so it’s always worth venturing out whatever the weather, regards nige👍

The stinker was pushing. Not just there in case of breakdown and/or heating. Lots of diesel exhaust and you could hear it growling. I've been on a Scotsman tour struggling up a gradient and then we're sailing along effortlessly. Quick message back to the diesel 'a bit of help please'. Beautiful filming. Thank you very much. Glad your batteries didnt freeze up.

Great video, like the swirling steam at the end of the closing clip, very atmospheric. That wind on Saturday even here in the south was something else, you must have been pleased Scotsman was running early!
@nige75773 жыл бұрын
Thanks George, I was pleased she was running never mind running early as there was a lot of cancellations but luckily the powers that be were able to reroute this tour rather than disappoint hundreds of passengers, that swirling steam just finished the shot nicely, cheers 👍

Such dedication! Thanks for posting this. I was on coach F (brown Pullman Diamond) with my wife as my Mum bought us a trip for my 40th birthday.

Thanks for watching Nick, I hope you both enjoyed you trip as much as we did from the lineside, maybe not the original route but with the storm in progress there weren’t many options so those concerned did a marvellous job to re route yours rather than cancel at the last minute so you got a treat being one of the few running, regards nige👍

@@nige7577 Thanks. Yes... it was a nightmare getting home later, on a normal train! My wife and I first saw The Flying Scotsman being restored in York so to finally ride behind was very special.

thank you for this beautiful film ,greetingsfrom holland where we hardly see any steam locs riding anymore around amsterdam and rotterdam , i think because of the busy schedule of the normal daily trains.
