Looks like it was the usual S&C weather again......... Despite that, nice footage Nige 👍🏻 And by the sounds of it, little or no assistance from the Brush on the back (easier to tell with a 47 😉). Thanks for sharing.

Great video of an LMS loco in its own territory! If we forget the colour of some of the coaching stock it could be 70 or more years ago. Just a pity about the paraffin can hanging on the back! Keep up the good work. Brings back memories of sitting by the line side near Ais Gill in my youth (late 50s early 60s), so thanks for memories!

How long can the 5 keep up with it's current load of almost daily tours???? Tangmere eventually succumbed to problems before her!!!
@rodsmith391116 сағат бұрын
She'll keep going as long as she gets properly maintained but all machines need repairs eventually. It's amazing what a 5 can put up with and keep working. You only have to look at wartime services and the run down condition of them in the late 60s! Like B1 and Halls they were survivors. Long may steam continue to thrill us all with their sound and performance!
@nige75774 сағат бұрын
Thanks Rod, glad this brings back happy memories for you and it’s my pleasure, the can on the rear is needed for the air con stock which is the only ones West Coast are able to use at present, cheers 👍

Lovely camera work Nige. Shame the light didn't hide those awful Mk3 coaches and those traveling on the train will have missed the great sound of the loco working hard.🤔
@nige7577Күн бұрын
Thanks Mark, it’s unfortunate that West Coast are still using the Mk3 air con stock and as you say suppressing that great sound the Black 5 was making on the climb so how long this situation is going to go on for is anyone’s guess, cheers nige 👍

I always think it’s a great shame that the steam trains need to have a diesel electric stuck on the back. I’m guessing that it’s in case of breakdowns, so that the line isn’t closed causing delays? Please correct me someone if I’m wrong. But it does spoil the aesthetics.
@nige75772 күн бұрын
Thanks Davey, the CME would normally run without a diesel on the rear at this time of year but it’s on to provide the air con for these coaches with don’t have opening windows, cheers 👍

Got a late 'ping' Nige, so slight apols for late reply. From the sound's I don't think 'she' was being worked hard, and on reading some comments maybe the reason being dry embankments? However '4871 is flying the LMS 'flag' proudly. Thanks again Nige.👍

Another great video! Wasn't a bad day either apart from the wind. I went over Shap with 4M27 and it was dry. There was even a lonely enthusiast out waiting for the black 5. One day I'm going to have a walk on that footbridge by the summit as I do go into the quarry and I believe the path passes through there.
@nige75772 күн бұрын
Thanks Lynden that’s much appreciated, yes the wind was the biggest problem on Shap blowing the sound away, definitely an early bird and even earlier than me😂 yes the path runs right through from the A6 and is well marked out then over the green footbridge and on to the Orton to Shap road B6261 and it’s a great view from the bridge, cheers 👍
