I'm gonna keep track of how many times I stop back in to give this gem a listen. It's been probably 2 dozen times now, but here goes... 2024-08-02

I discovered these guys while in college. Funny how a song can make you feel the same way...even after a decade.

Love to see that clawhammer style. Just shows how much he's grown as an artist and musician.

Ellegant and soft Feminine as you ougt One with earth and one with God Won't you please forgive me Won't you please forgive me As the daylight sinks As I fail to stop and think Once I cursed the things I've done Won't you please forgive me Won't you please forgive me Young bride take my name Burn the questions burn the shame You don't have to live by them Won't you please forgive them Won't you please forgive them Sleep well when the night time falls Wait 'till morning when I call Don't believe the bad you saw Won't you please forgive them Tenderness and grace How you've come this place However dangerous or safe I'll find within you I'll find within you

I just bought my first banjo (instrument for that matter) because of these guys. Friends think i'm crazy. They might be right. If I could just learn this one song i'd die a happy man :-)
@evanleith99319 жыл бұрын
kurt niebling Kurt, I seriously did the same thing. Didn't actually have to buy one because my dad had one miraculously, but got a banjo because of this song! learning strumming patterns is hard...
@TravisBoudreau9 жыл бұрын
kurt niebling this is actually a pretty easy song to play, once you learn how to clawhammer, he does do a drop thumb in a few places which is sort of an advanced clawhammering technique but it can be played without it .If you have a banjo a good place to start learning here on youtube would be to check out Patrick Costello's channel him and his dad are amazing teachers and will have you clawhammering within an hour
@TravisBoudreau8 жыл бұрын
CPV Really ... 2 months? I'm not saying it sounded good but I had the basic mechanics of clawhammering within an hour , going through the channel I suggested . No dropthumbing isn't an advanced technique it's just a different technique,But you have to know the basic clawhammer before you can dropthumb, thousands of clawhammerers (if that's a real word haha) never dropthumb and it sounds amazing, Scott is dropthumbing in this song.Lastly I clawhammer the guitar as well as the banjo so its not just a banjo style. Check out my videos , I'm not that good but I aint been playing that long either.

I don't believe in God but I still love The Avett Brothers music and I think that their passion carries over into their music. I am a fan of most styles of music but not a big fan of "Christian" music. I do, though, enjoy old spirituals/gospels (when sung by the right people) and respect them for what they are; powerful and passionate and full of human emotion which, in my opinion, is what music is meant to reflect.

I think we can agree that music exists and it is beautiful in that it unites more often than it divides. I do not personally know the Avetts, though I sure do wish I did and through their music and the easy video accessibility that we have, it seems that we all kinda do, I believe they would rather their music bring us all together in peace and harmony than to divide us into groups of who's who and what's what. None of that is all that important anyway, is it ? Namaste and Avett love to all.

Well said Big! Me and God is one of my favorites. If god isn't a personal thing for a person then its a thing, easy to cast off...like..i'll cheat tonight, but say 10 hail Marys' tomorrow...if its real, its love, and it is "me and my god". ROCK ON!
