My grandfather bought my parents a PK Grill in 1966. We had that until the grate and stand rusted away in the 1980s. That aluminum capsule just sat in the backyard forever until they moved away. What a shame! I had no idea the company still existed. Looking forward to getting a new one and rekindling our family traditions.

Thanks for this video, guys! I mostly followed Scott's method with a 12 lb dry brined bird in my PK classic but used Brian's lump charcoal approach and it came out perfect.

Thanksgiving 2022 says hello. I'm using Scott's charcoal and pan arrangement in a PK classic (mine lacks the cool newer thermometer on the front) with Sam's charcoal and a 13 lb liquid brined turkey. Your instructions are absolutely perfect for these grills. After 2 hours in, the bird looks like a magazine cover turkey. Thanks for making this video - I know it's marketing but it's quite useful information.

I have owned an original PK for about six months. A bit of a learning curve as I had uses gas for man=y years. Love the PK as I relearn how to operate with charcoal. The only drawback as far as I am conv=cerned is the lack of a thermometer. Is there a recommended location to drill a hole for mounting a thermometer? Dial thermometer is handy for course heat adjustment?

Great video! Just got a pk360 and want to do this cook soon. Do you guys recommend adding lit, or unlit lump charcoal for the refuel? Worried about dirty smoke if adding unlit, but in your video the pk360 had some great looking smoke. Also when are you guys making a new video! Need our fix! :)

Great video. When you refuel, do you add lit or unlit briquettes? Thanks.
@PKGrills7 жыл бұрын
When we are on our game, we like to keep a small stash of lit briquettes on hand, but we just threw in some unlit briquettes during this cook and it worked fine.

I am new to owning my original p.k.- struggling knowing when to add coal on long cooks... Add lit or unlit??
@PKGrills6 жыл бұрын
We keep an eye on the internal temperature of the grill and add unlit charcoal or wood during the cook in order to maintain the temp we need for the cook.

PK Grills Thanks! Can't wait to smoke some meat on the PK

Since the heat is rolling over the top of the turkey, I think I would have flipped it bottom up and around at least for a little while.

What’s the biggest size turkey you’d say an original could handle?
@Ootgreet1 Жыл бұрын
I have the original. A 13 lb Butterball turkey almost, not quite, touches the lid top when on the grate. The width and length are not such an issue but in my case the height is close.
@shaneboyd8788 Жыл бұрын
@@Ootgreet1 yeah , I spatchcocked a 17lb turkey on the original yesterday I wouldn’t go bigger than that

Did you have to refuel the lump on the 360?

Yes. Brian added a few good size chunks to the edge of the pile at the halfway mark.

I just did a side by side burn with the original and the 360. Both had the same amount of charcoal. Started the first chimney at 5:05 and fed the 360 at 5:20. Immediately started the chimney again around 5:25 and started the pk original around 5:40. At 10 o'clock, the original still has plenty of heat while the 360 is lukewarm. PS, the 360 is harder to clean. I bought the hype of the 360, but the original is a much better and simpler grill. Don't buy the hype, stick with tried and true.
@markiskool2 жыл бұрын
@Chris Olson I hope it makes you as happy as my pk original did me. I sooo wanted the 360 (at twice the money!) to be that much better but it's not. Good luck and enjoy!

I wish you guys had rolled out with a better price for the 360 for the early adopters. I dont see the justification for the 200+% increase over the original. I would have purchased one already at $599 or MAYBE $649. Any more than that and your getting into quality kamado price range.
@PKGrills6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the honest feedback Turtlepowersf. We believe the PK360 with it's cast aluminum capsule and 4-point venting to be a more versatile grilling and smoking platform than a Kamado, more portable and more durable. Our grills are unique and expensive to make. The good news is they have a long history of lasting a long time. We'd like to have you as a customer.

PK Grills yeah I understand it has some advantages over kamados. I personally mostly cook on a Big Joe but it's far from portable. I'd like to own an original PK at some point for quick cooks and to take on trips. I was looking into the 360 as a gift for my parents but I'm more than likely going to get them an original. More than double the cost for the convenience of a stand and side tables doesnt work for me. I realize the vents are upgraded also and it's slightly larger, although i believe the size increase is inflated since it's measured in cubic inches and not in square inches of cooking area. The extra height is not nearly as important as actual grilling space. I was just thinking it may have been a good idea to do a lower introductory price at the very start for the die-hard pitmasters like myself. That way youre likely to get a bunch of KZbin reviews out there from customers and create a buzz on the bbq forums. Sorry if i sound overly critical, im just passionate about bbq :-)

i own both models and thought the pricing difference was to large as well when i first started looking at pk's. I settled on the original because i believed it would do what I needed but I really wanted the 360 for the venting system and cooking height but bought the original because of the price. the original cooks so well and the heat is so even but still I really wanted the 360 for the reason listed earlier and I really like the look/design. I got the 360 on cyber monday and the ease of use on the design of the 360 is much better when you are trying to cook 4,5,6 different items on the grill and you have a lot going on around the grill. I wouldnt trade the PK's for any other grill out there and think the 360 is well worth the price if you are entertaining around the grill or just need more space for sides that are also cooked on the grill, cutting board, temp probe ect. -

Justin Kee I ended up getting my folks the original SCA edition which came with grill grates. They seem to like it a lot. I would have liked to get them the 360 but i actually thought my dad would like the simplicity of the original and it wouldnt be worth the extra 400 bucks or whatever. I think they are a good midde-ground between the thin weber kettles and the pricier, heavier kamados. If i were to spend $800+ on a bbq for them it would still be a kamado. With the verstility and efficiency that a kamado offers, I think they are the most superior type of smoker/grill on the market. I just fed 20 people on Saturday with my Big Joe + big joetisserie and everything was awesome. That rig was definitely not cheap, tho.
@Mr2004MCSS6 жыл бұрын
I own both as well and if I could only have one of them it would be the 360. I like all of the improvements over the classic and to me, its worth the additional money. I wouldn't own a ceramic Kamado even though it's a great cooker. It's heavy and fragile. I would buy a Blaze aluminum Kamado If I was going to get a Kamado type cooker.
