The Cao has a more open sound. Sometimes after being played a lot you can get a more nasal or boxy sounding violin like the Aileen to open up. I get what you are saying about the antiquing on the front of the car but the flaming on the back of the Aileen is beautiful. I would have gone with the Cao based on sound too.

Thanks for updating the description. My son has played violin since he was 4 (he's 13 now) and he really likes this song too. I'm going to have him watch this video because it's interesting. Yes, it's great! Seems like their quality control is very high even for budget instruments. I guess the quality of the budget products of companies tell a lot about them. In the guitar world I think it's like an Ibanez. And the hard part is to find a good teacher:)
