"If I Had Words" was a 1978 UK hit song performed by Scott Fitzgerald as a duet with Yvonne Keeley. It reached number 3 in the UK charts and number 24 in the Australian charts in 1978. It sold more than one million copies. It was also a hit in New Zealand, Belgium, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
The tune was taken from the main theme of the Maestoso from Saint-Saëns Symphony No.3 in C minor (Symphony with organ) with an added reggae beat. The lyrics and arrangement were by Jonathan Hodge, a prolific writer of TV jingles and movie themes, who also produced the single.
The backing was by the St Thomas More Roman Catholic School Choir in Chelsea, London

Heard this song as a small boy on the radio in the later part of 70's, without knowing the lyrics nor the title of the song. Later in the 90's while watching a movie on some talking animals, I suddenly remembered the song as the movie had this as a theme song. Still, there was no way I could figure out the lyrics, the singers and the title. Recently, I made efforts to search for the song on KZbin. First, I scrolled Google to find a movies on talking animals. There it was - 'Babe'. And finally found the song. I love the song. It brings me back so many childhood memories. Sob..

My first memory of hearing this song was on the movie Babe. It was a more upbeat, happy version. Evidently they picked the right song for the movie, it had me crying and laughing at the same time. So many movies in more recent decades have used music from the earlier decades. I’m glad because it brings back good memories and unites the past with the present. And many of the younger generations think it’s new music. 😄

Think I was about 13 when this came out, and I loved it until my parents started liking it and it became naff (and the law at the time stated that if your parents liked your music, you were doing music wrong! *LMFAO* )... a few years later, I rediscovered it and found that it was perfect for mix-tapes (and later CDs) to listen to in the car, the shower, or the bedroom ... Now it's part of the playlist I use to wake my kids up on school days. It's a nice way to start the day :D

Too bad the lyricist could think of only one verse. At least this exposed a whole generation to the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony, but I wonder how many have sought out the original. In the composer's own words, “With it, I have given all I could give. What I did, I could not achieve again.” It was the last symphony he wrote.

what do you define as "Reggae" if not this? ... I mean, it's not done by a Rasta with dreadlocks down his ass, but neither were any of the reggae songs done by Blondie, the Police, Eric Clapton, or Yellowman .....

It's okay, it's all right. You are allowed to do it now. You know you want to! Just shriek your loudest *"Deep in the moo-oon-shine!"* as if nobody will hear you. It's KZbin after all.

Wrong film; it was sung in Babe, which "Pig in the City" is the sequel to. But this song predates Babe by around 18 years, and the classical piece on which it's based, Symphony No. 3 (Saint-Saens) was written in 1886.
