Thank you so much for utilizing the photographs taken by my father Frank C. Hirahara, who was photo editor of the Heart Mountain High School 1944 Tempo Yearbook when he was a high school senior. Since he was also ASB Commissioner of Student Activities during his senior year, he got a behind the scenes look at high school life that no other high school student was able to capture. I donated my family's over 2,000 photos that were taken by my father and Grandfather George Hirahara, at Heart Mountain, to my father's alma mater of Washington State University. This photo collection is considered the largest private collection of photos taken there from 1943 - 1945.

This was outstanding. As a former History teacher, I deeply appreciate the ongoing efforts to keep Americans (and others) informed on our true history; not the mythologies that often get passed off as history.

As a sansei I was surprised and this story made me cry, my family was sent to Minidoka. This was not discussed at home and I learned of it in high school when doing a family history assignment. Yes reparation happened but this happened on US soil and is still not broadly understood which is unfortunate as we really need to apply lessons learned today. Thank you Fujitas and the NFL for telling this bit of shared history.

Growing up loving football and having no Japanese role models, I gravitated towards rooting for Scott Fujita. So little was known about him online except that he was adopted by a Japanese family. Glad to finally hear a bit about his story.

Amazing documentary about a shameful chapter in U.S history. That was an incredible football team made up by a very resilient set of humans: under very difficult circumstances.

I’m entertained by people saying this is a “chapter”, implying a small contained event. The entire history of the USA is just a series of these “chapters”. I wonder how we would all do if we honestly, transparently examined the energy of this and openly discussed it. 🤷🏽

Yup, FDR, others did this. Roosevelt didn't need "convincing" if you read released documents. Just like he and HIS people did to what became known as the Projects, how he segregated the military, on and on.

Yeah it was terrible stuff and I learned about it in school. What I DID NOT learn about was the R-- of Nanking, the Manila Massacre, and the internment camps all Westerners were placed when Japan INVADED those countries. Fujita’s story is fascinating but as a Filipino American it’s sad how people turn a blind eye toward the brutality of the aggressors.
