The American Dream used to be that you could move to America, work hard, and do better than your parents. But now, that dream no longer seems feasible.
Since the pandemic, the world has had to learn how to navigate change. Factors like political extremism, the great resignation, the market downturn, etc. have impacted everyone, especially young people. In America, there is a large disparity between the rich and poor. America has a problem with prioritizing the wealth of older generations and keeping young people from generating any wealth of their own. On top of everything, according to Scott Galloway, one of America’s leading crises is that it is filled with too many “young, broke, and alone males.”
Scott Galloway, also known as “the Howard Stern of the business world,” is a bestselling author, NYU business school professor, tech startup veteran, brand consultant. In his latest book Adrift, Scott examines of the future of our nation - and how we got here. He attempts to make sense of it all, and offers his take on where we're headed and who we'll become.
In this episode, Hala and Scott talk about what the American Dream has become, Scott’s view on work-life balance, and why the world is currently producing economically and emotionally unviable young men. Scott explains the detrimental effects that loneliness has on young people today. Additionally, he shares why he thinks the phrase “follow your passion” is misleading.
Topics Include:
- Scott’s “remarkably unremarkable” early life
- Don’t follow your passion. Find your talent.
- The triangle of happiness: relationships, fitness, work
- Why we aren’t as rich as our parents
- Modern men are emotionally and economically unviable
- What to look for in a romantic partner
- The importance of investing in young people
- Why marriage and birth rates are declining
- Loneliness is an epidemic
- How to navigate modern dating
- Healthy masculinity
- And other topics…
Scott Galloway is an entrepreneur, best-selling author, public speaker, and host of the top podcast, Prof G Pod. He is a Clinical Professor at the NYU Stern School of Business where he teaches brand strategy and digital marketing. He is also the Founder of L2, Red Envelope, and Prophet Brand Strategy. In 2012, Professor Galloway was named “One of the World’s 50 Best Business School Professors” by Poets & Quants. Scott was elected to the World Economic Forum’s Global Leaders of Tomorrow and has served on the boards of directors of Eddie Bauer, The New York Times Company, Gateway Computer, and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
He’s the author of 4 New York Times best-selling books including his latest release, Adrift: America in 100 Charts which tells the story of America through 100 charts with the goal of examining our post-pandemic future and how we got here by analyzing data from the year 1945 to present day.

It's refreshing to hear Scott Galloway sounding the alarm bells on the dangers of sexless and hopeless young men. I'm a single 37 year old male. In my late 20's a bunch of ex's & old flings contacted me after years of silence. It was like 5 of them within 2 months time, it was too much to be a coincidence. I had lunch with one and she started asking me how i felt about marriage. It clicked immediately what was happening. They were getting older and decided to sEttLe dOwN. It disgusted me so much i stopped dating since. Am i better off? I think so. I will not be a woman's last choice. Men will put up with a lot of nonsense but once we reach our limit we are done. It's shocking when i see comments and posts (especially on Reddit) of men in their 20's & 30's who haven't even been on a date or kissed. And the replies are always bad advice or copium. No society lasts long when a huge portion of their military age males are sexless and hopeless.

What made you think those contacts indicated you were the last choice?

If I were you I would have told all 5 provided they were cute that the 6 of you can live together and you pick 2 a night for bedroom fun. Split bills 6 ways. 😂 if some got ugly they are auto disqualified. The only women who have ever wanted me are meh looking so I stay far away.

@@cobrakaiisback4709 I appreciate the humor. Polygamy is the reason the dating market is imbalanced. Polygamy is bad news for nations. It causes civil wars. When 6 women are with 1 man it means 5 men are sexless. Hopeless and sexless men cause nations to fight inside.

I am 45 divorced 14 years. My life has gotten better ever year. All these women want to settle down but they are fat, smokers heavy drinkers and want prince charming. You are constantly compared to the new IT guy and they are never satisfied because their life isn't what they see on social media. As a man any small mistake is going to blasted all over Instagram or tic tok. Why? A dog and an Asian Massage parlor can fulfill most of my needs for a fourth the cost and none of the drama.

Scott is great influence, hopefully more young people decide to listen to him. A lot of ways I mirror him, I was a poor college student at UCSB, a sister school 100 miles north of UCLA., and we are about a year apart in age. unlike Scott, I don’t have remarkable talent, but I am a good plodder and I learned early to put myself in positions to challenge myself, however uncomfortable it was. I listen to motivational tapes, and became really familiar with gratitude. There’s a lot of power with embracing the concept. You take inventory of all your qualities and begin to realize you really don’t have any excuses other than to march forward and pursue success.
