Dr. Scott Harrower (Ph.D.) is an Anglican theologian, historian, and moral philosopher. He is an Associate Professor of Theology and History at Ridley College (in Melbourne, Australia). He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in theology, early Christianity, ethics, and Christian spirituality. Prior to his academic career, he grew up in Argentina in the context of civil and international war and also worked there as a nurse within a collapsing health system. In Australia, he continued his nursing career as a trauma nurse. His recent books on trauma and recovery include God of All Comfort: A Trinitarian Response to the Horrors of This World, and Dawn of Sunday: Trinity and Trauma Safe Churches.
In order to cope with writing about trauma, Scott also writes on early Christianity in Roman contexts. His previous books include (with Greg Forbes) on the depiction of women in Luke-Acts (Raised from Obscurity). Scott is currently co-editing (with Mike Bird) the Handbook to Second Century Christianity (Baylor University Press). However, because he could not stop himself from writing about trauma, Scott also has a forthcoming volume on trauma and recovery in third-century Christian communities, Trauma and Recovery in Early North African Christianity (De Gruyter).
Scott is also a well-known editor, co-editing (with Mike Bird) The Cambridge Companion to the Apostolic Fathers; Trinity Without Hierarchy: Reclaiming Nicene Orthodoxy in Evangelical Theology (Kregel Academic); Unlimited Atonement (Kregel) and with Sean McDonough, A Time for Sorrow: Recovering the Practice of Lament in the Life of the Church (Hendrickson).
This lecture was given at the Summer School of Theology 2023 "Wounds of Today's World: Doing and Living Theology in the Context of Trauma"
