+thejudester1000 I know. And that's most definitely just my opinion. There's obviously thousands of fans out there or Stryper would never have had a career! I'm just not that into the old glam rock sound. Thanks for responding sensibly. Usually when I make comments like that I get told to go fuck/kill myself. It's hard to start a non-offensive discussion...

If anyone really would take the time to listen to Stryper, Christian or Not, you'd know that these guys are super talented. Everyone of them are terrific vocalist and musicians. They do have guts. They are not trying to cram things down people's throats, just making their own statement, like bands who aren't Christians do as well when they perform. I LOVE all music and Stryper is awesome!!!

I love Anthrax, Always have. But I'm a huge Stryper fan. Not to dis on Scotty here, but the reason Stryper was added to the shows was to fill the seats. The other bands weren't bringing in enough cash for the venue, so they asked Stryper to join in. And really, i know Scott, Charlie, and Frankie put on a big show with the "evil" thing, but I pray for them sometimes, and I truly believe that most of what they say is just that, a show. It's much like Tom from Slayer. A Catholic at all times in his life, except within his music. The Anthrax boys might not be Christians, but I bet they are extremely nice guys, who probably hold some type of belief in a higher power. Either way, I hope both bands keep rocking for a long time!

+Austin Dalyai Great response, you sound like a really cool guy. I like both bands myself, but I remember back in the 80s Anthrax were a bunch of musical snobs who thought they were the real deal and all the pop/glam metal stunk; they even made fun of it on one of the tracks of "I Am The Man". I haven't listened to Anthrax ever since the early 90s so I guess I am kinda lost when people refer to their music as being dark and evil. I know them from their "Among The Living" days when they were doing songs like "Indian" about the native Americans and "I Am the Law" about comic book hero Judge Dred. Then I started seeing pentagrams on their albums and just avoided it, I don't like that stuff. I guess they went another direction?

I don't know where their paths will lead them, and I know I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I can, and do continue to pray for them. I love that James Hetfield and Dave Mustane have both made their peace with God, and with their influence in the musical world, I hope to see others follow their example.

But I've played on the bill with some of the Newer "Christian" Rock/Metal bands. I see NO fruit of the Spirit just heathens most of em. Btw there is NO such a thing as a "christian" record label. Maybe a few indy christian labels. We were told we were too "scriptural" & was told that NO Preaching from the stage … this is at "Christian" Venues. On the other side when we played Secular Festivals the Heathens/Sinners treated us like gold. And many were in tears by the end of the last set. We got to minister to many that hardly happened in "Churches or Christian Venues" because the ppl were waiting for their favorite band they would act as tho we weren't there??? Sad but true there is many False "christians" out there today more than ever. An old pastor I had had POD play because he heard they were christian talking to them he said that they didn't even know the Gospel they sleep over at his house he gave em the Gospel but they didn't Repent & Believe.

I trust metal more than a bunch of so-called "Christians" that are all about the money. There's True Christianity, then there are so-called "christians". Trust me-I know what I'm talking about on this subject. Been there, done that, moved on!!!!!

No way. If you actually learn the songs, Stryper compared to Anthrax is like kindergarten compared to college. You can learn Stryper drum lines if you've played drums for as little as a week and riffs are über-primitive. Even Motley Crue is more complex than Stryper.

@@Admiral_Bongo Exactly. Stryper are good musicians, but the drumming are basic big beat 80's glam rock style shit. Charlie Benante destroys that drummer, and Joey Belladonna's vocals equal Michael Sweet in range. Dan Spitz's leads were also as good or better than Oz Fox.

look. bible or not, I can say I wouldn't enjoy having books tossed at me from some lame hair band that dressed like bumble bees. ESPECIALLY when I'm there to see Anthrax. For me, it'd be more of a case of, "get rid of the hair band, and give me a REAL metal band".

Yeah, Stryper was a talented band on it's own, regardless of the Christian lyrics (say's the kid with "churchboyjh" as his sign in name). But it's true, the drummer was phenomenal, and the music itself was very good, the lyrics were just as awesome. "To Hell with the Devil", those are strong words to be singing.

Stryper is a great band with talented musicians and amazing vocals. Does it really matter if they sing about God? Hasn't the same thing been said about bands who sing about negative things? Most replies are, "Who cares? The music is awesome." Why the double standard?

Larry Norman was the first Christian Rocker. Around 1969. There's an album called "Upon this Rock". I never heard it but he is said to be the first to shock the world with the sound of Christian Metal. He quoted as saying "I'm going to present the gospel, and I'm not going to say it like you want. This album is not for you."

I am a religious person and I used to love Anthrax - you know the real Anthrax before the other members left. The band now is a mere caricature of a once loud and proud thrash band. It's now overuse of devil imagery - which is representative of a form of religion, I might add - is also a joke.
