LaFaro was truly one of a kind. This trio stuff is a lifetime of study.

Dude now that I’m hearing it on a electric bass, his solo just sounds even more genuis to me now. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what is going on with an upright but the sound clarity on a electric just makes me hear how great this solo really is. That ending phrase is just🤌🏼

Yeah totally man. Learning it help me wrap my head around the phrases and just how lyrical and spontaneous his playing is

@butterboydan "sometimes it’s hard to tell what is going on with an upright..." Yep. No only because of the instrument itself, but also because of the recordings techniques, would it be only the microphones in the first place. LaFaro with Evans = very early 60s, more than 60 years ago, the technology changed a lot hopefully! Then the recording, the "mixing" and stereo, when available[*], then the mastering for vinyl records, then the reproduction at home. Let's not forget this last step, and sadly today this last step is often... smartphone loudspeakers and/or crappy headphones. *: My grandfather was an classical music orchestra director. A lot of his recordings are available on YT (or on ebay as vinyls), but they are most often than not mono and the sound quality is terrible I have is only CD, released in 1989 after his death, re-mixed and mastered in digital.

@@SlapaDaBass0the way he hangs on some of them chords after they're long gone is magic. Good playing and nice bass.
