I love how so many martial arts masters and movie stars are just the most humble people. Rather than clashing egos, they just compliment the hell out of each other. Such great role models. It'd be nice to see more of that attitude in combat sports.
@smesh1412 жыл бұрын
Fighters in combat sports are real martial artists, because as the name suggests, martial arts were developed for fighting and killing people. 99% of those movie stars never competed in any combat sport, so what are you talking about? The atittude fighters present sells the fights, it's their job. How can you say that someone is role model if you don't know any of these people in person? They are humble and nice to each other, because they are actors, most of them have never fought anywhere, it's not what they do. It's hard to call role models people like Van Damme, Seagal, Michael Jai White and even Bruce Lee.
@AlStone22 жыл бұрын
@@smesh141 I never said they weren't martial artists, read things properly before you reply
@smesh1412 жыл бұрын
@@AlStone2 No, I said that and explained that.
@AlStone22 жыл бұрын
@@smesh141 you can sell a fight and still be respectful to one another. That sort of attitude should go hand-in-hand with marital arts training whether it involves combat sports or not. Also how can you say you have to know someone in person to judge them as a role model? That's a ridiculous statement. I guess next time someone says Nicki Minaj is a bad role model for young girls, I'll just say "you don't even know her!" And how the hell do you say you can't call someone like Bruce Lee a role model?!
@smesh1412 жыл бұрын
@@AlStone2 Of course that you can sell fight being humble and respectful, but it's obvious that you can sell it much better when tension between fighters is stronger. It's their job, that's what they do for living. Most of the time it's not even real between them, it's more staged. Same with movies, someone can ask why martial arts masters (as you call them) stars in movies where there is so much brutality, revenge, hurting and killing people etc. To make money of course, but it's staged, just like most trash talk between fighters. It's obvious that in public most people try to behave nice, but we don't know any of them in person. For example Bruce Lee, he can be inspiration in many ways, but role model? There are no role models, people try to idealize famous people basing on their public image and behaviour, but they are just regular people with ups and downs. Bruce Lee for example was addicted to drugs, why most people never said anything about that? Because they idolize him and it doesn't fit to their perfect image of his which they created in their own imagination.

This series has been an absolute joy. Honestly, I've always adored the "family tree" lineage that runs through decades of action cinema, how everyone knows each other, trains with each other, the skills being both refined and passed on from gen to gen, nothing but honest appreciation and inspiration taken from each others work. The mutual respect and complete lack of ego is so apparent it's actually quite humbling. Folks I'd love to see: Liang Yang, I think he and Scott could share experiences of being "that jaw-dropping guy" in blockbusters, and how it differs working on big budget movies versus more independent films. Jonathan Tropper, I know we're all in agreement that Gangs of London is exceptional, but surely with Banshee and now Warrior under his belt Tropper is a showrunner with a pretty massive action Tv pedigree, and obviously a huge appreciator of the genre. Also, just for the pure joy of hearing what must be an absolute treasure troves on some of the most cult movies of all time: Al Leong might be a superb interview. At this point, every guest is absolute fried gold anyway, (Hmm, Edgar Wright might be another interesting choice), but just adding my 2 cents to the embarassment of riches on display anyway. Also, Marvel ? Scott for Moon Knight. Take the very best of the Bendis / Ellis run, the impeccable white suit, but also the multiple personalities concept where he starts picking up other personas. I mean where else could you find someone talented enough to pull off the fighting styles of Captain America / Wolverine and Spider-man AND be a bloody good actor ! C'mon Kevin Feige, you know it makes sense, get it done.

As a product of the nineties and an all-round action movie fan, this was the ultimate interview. The respect, the passion, the dedication for the craft shown by these gentlemen is what makes their movies so great and timeless. And the laughs! Hilarious. Put a smile on my face. Kudos Scott.

This mutual lovefest for each other put a big ol' smile on my face. We need a Adkins/Dacascos collab pronto! and for the longuest time I've wanted to watch "Drive" and this just made me put it right on top of the watch list.

The greatest thing about this interview is, both are clearly fans of the other. Rather than someone just blowing smoke up someones ass, here, you can clearly see the mutual respect. And that’s what makes it work so well. Plus, the way scott just lets mark talk, rather than constantly interrupt to talk about himself, he keeps his cool throughout and just lets the interviewee talk at length. Brilliant to watch!

Its weird to have such a martial arts legend as practically a bit part in John wick. But I suppose it’s like Scott in dr strange.

I love this interview. It's the way Scott doesn't use his own anecdotes to be about himself, they're always about drawing more out of Mark. That's the hallmark of a really good interviewer, having your own personality showing and yet keeping the spotlight on the interviewee. Brilliant.

I absolutely LOVED both "Only the Strong" and "Drive". The former was both entertaining as an action movie, and had a solid message (and could be argued introduced the world to Capoeira) and the latter was just a fun joy ride with some good comedic beats and a very early (and funny) role for Brittney Murphy. Just pure entertainment.
