"Painful" Norton is a sort of unsung star. He made stars in the background with his stunt choreography. He has worked across the world with all sorts. The yang to Rothrock's yin. A real martial artist.
@mantislake41414 жыл бұрын
"With all sorts" is exactly right. Has to be the only guy to do multiple films with Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung in Hong Kong, plus Cynthia Rothrock and Chuck Norris, stateside. Plus Australian flicks and his bodyguard work!

What an incredible life this gentleman is living. To have been side by side with gods of the music industry as a bodyguard for years, is a unique enough experience in itself, but to have worked his way up besides the legends of action cinema on every side of the planet AND become a choreographer of absolute reknown at the top of the hollywood tree is the kind of life that demands it's OWN movie ! Looking forward to Suicide Squad, and everything Richard still has to bring. Thanks for another gold standard interview.

What a fantastic interview guys. When Jackie Chan said he gets tired of Westerners coming in trying to show how tough ass as they are. Then when Richard said Sammo Hung punched him in the face so many times something like 20 and kicked him full force. I couldn’t help but think Jackie and Sammo Hung are just punishing Westerners too you see how tough they really are. Richard proved he’s pretty dam tough. Great series Scott.

I'm so glad that you are doing this Scott, Richard is an unsung Australian hero to a lot of us martial arts fans and I'm looking forward to seeing this interview. AND I'm also happy to see people shouting out Cynthia Rothrock as someone you should definitely interview. She would have some amazing stories to tell about what it was like being a female action star during the very masculine 80's and 90's. I've always loved her, she had tremendous skill as a fighter but still showed a beautiful feminine side and with the acting chops that put a lot of her male contemporaries to shame...I'm looking at you Steven Segal you big plank of wood!! Thank you for so much incredible content and I've got the reminder set for Debt Collectors on Aussie netflix ready to go. Now...hurry up and play Batman dammit haha!!!!

I love the stories and insights that Richard Norton provided about the early Hong Kong action movies and how their fights were choreographed, how they were shot, and how they were produced! Lots of good stuff here, Tons of love and respect for Richard!!! He has the uncanny ability to play these quirky villains and characters with a certain authenticity and gravitas, even if they were played for laughs . He also had a way of making the hero characters in his movies look good on screen! Huge props as well to Chuck Norris, Sammo Hung, and Cynthia Rothrockl!!! Waiting with bated breath for the next episode!!!

Seen this man as a 9-10 year old on a VHS my dad bought back in the late 90's. It was a little australian film called "Under the Gun" I believe (called "Iron Fist" in some countries, like mine, Russia), where Norton played a nightclub owner and ex-hockey player. GREAT MOVIE, never forgot that film, I'm 33 now. We were all fans of American flicks on VHS back then, watching and imitating the fights. Richard Norton was one of the inspirations. Thank you sir!

Thought I just listen for a couple of minutes, but ended up listening to the entire interview. Listening to Richard is like listening to a cool uncle. Listening to him work with legends like Chuck Norris, Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan, and Cynthia Rothrock was a delight. Him reminiscing about Hong Kong reminded me of the time I spent there. And I agree with his last comments, how you don't realize the impact of something until years (and sometimes decades) later. Great to hear that he's still a martial artist at heart and still creative in filmmaking. Excellent job to both Scott and Richard for this!
