Jonathan’s transcriptions are always stunning and those performed at this concert were no exception; in particular, “Un bel dì” and the Humming Chorus were heartbreakingly beautiful and the Dvorak was nothing short of epic. Apart from the transcriptions, the performance of the Bach was out of this world and it sounded amazing on this wonderful instrument. Tom’s videography perfectly captured the magnificence of the interior of the church, particularly the beautiful organ case and pipes; as always, the sound quality was superb. A visual and aural feast - bravi, Maestri! 💜

What a wonderful age this is. I was able to attend your concert here in NYC, where it is 33° F. (1° C.), in the comfort of my living room. Jonathan was up to his usual wizardry. I enjoyed the BACH greatly. It was well delineated. The reeds of this organ are so rich! The microphone placement used by Tom captured the great sound and bite. What was the temperature in the sanctuary? Music sounds best in a cool environment, though problematic for strings. How recently had it been tuned, and what was the temperature at tuning? I know that you usually record in the daytime when the windows are illuminated, but does traffic noise ever intrude? I never knew that there was a dog barking in Vivaldi's spring. So, the shepherds and nymphs danced together. The goatherds were not invited?

Here's a daft question probably. As this is a pipe organ, I presume that there is a way in which the organ console can be moved as it would not be out in centre of the chancery steps during a service. Normally in churches I have seen, the organist is tucked away in a loft of out of sight at the back of the choir. I once saw Dame Judith Weir perform in a concert, she appeared in-between the pieces, but literally disappeared into the woodwork to perform.
@epincion
@epincion 3 жыл бұрын
This organ has an electro-pneumatic linkage and a mobile console. For services the organ is usually placed off to the side. Its also common that pipe organs are totally mechanical (a tracker) and then the console will be right up against the organ in some way. All old organs are like this but modern trackers are still being built - especially on the continent. Modern large concert and church organs are often both with a mechanical console and a separate digital mobile console. The very large Bridgewater Hall organ in Manchester that Jonathan plays has both and he has done concerts using both.
@jeremypreece870
@jeremypreece870 3 жыл бұрын
