What I actually find really impressive is the fact that despite the massive size of the organ, there's little to no lag or delay between the key press and the actual sound, quite the engineering state of the art right there

I dont know about this one, but for the organ in notre dame of Lausanne in Switzerland (which is the most expensive in the world) the keyboard is linked to the organ with optical cable, so pretty much zero latency Edit: not zero latency, as you'll always have to deal with the valves sending wind to the pipes, which takes some time. But the second keyboard of the organ is about 60 meters away from the main pipes, and it would be harder to play without the optical cable.

Up to this particular second in time, I had NO Idea of how complicated it is to play an organ! In the 90's, I had a dear friend who had obtained a Master's Degree in organ. I SOOO underesti- mated how darn difficult it must be to learn to master this musical instrument. I was impressed when he told me, but really hadn't the slightest real understanding of the scope of it. I used to play the piano, which only has three foot pedals. It's like, wow, I thought THAT was hard - now I stand enlightened after watch- ing this guy play! Mister, you have my total re- spect as a musician!!!

That depends on how you define "nuclear reactor." My favorite thing about pipe organs of this scale is that, you aren't playing a simple organ, you are playing an instrument that's larger than most people's houses! Pipe organs sound huge because the chamber they are in is part of the instrument too. You are surrounded by its sound and it wouldn't sound the same if it was out in the open. Such a cool instrument and has a sound like no other!

I think it's in the top three, along with the piano and violin! It's got to be the King in size alone! Reminds me of a TV show called, "My 600 Pound Life!" and the HUGELY FAT PEOPLE whose lives revolve around food! When you get an idea of what a obese person over 600 pounds really looks like, well, the organ is the behemoth of musical instruments. They are both quite impressive but whereas the hugely obese folks garner little respect, the opposite is true of the Organ!

There was a collective understanding that if someone was an organ performance major, then they were a total badass. Yes, any accomplished pianist can learn organ. My own mother was one of those.
