Nice. I’m guessing this is how the orange/teal look is down that is popular in concert photography right now.

A split tone is definitely one way for that look… with, shall we say, aggressive application.

After so many years of pursuing color accuracy, I’m still getting my head around color grading. I’m finding it a slippery slope. Very often I’ll make adjustment that I think look good but then revisit it a day or two later and wonder what the heck I was thinking. LOL.

It’s definitely a subjective thing :)

Thank you so much Mr Davenport. I used your code to grab a future copy (my first copy) of photo raw 2022. I actually received a better deal then the 20%. I must be lucky. Anyhow, thanks again.

Thank you for your continuing series examining the tools and filters in ON1 Photo RAW, Scott. While I have experimented with a number of these filters, your explanations and illustrative examples are extremely helpful in demonstrating WHY a particular filter may be useful for a certain type of image.

Great explanation. Thanks again. On1 is so powerful and I no sooner get my mind around 2021, they hit us with 2022. No complaints mind you. I love to learn new tricks but in learning it is not benefiting if I don't apply that which I have learned. Time, I need more time. Ahhhh, life is so interesting.

Yes, the features keep moving forward. The good thing with ON1 is your existing skills carry forward. All of the editing tools in the current version are in the next one. And they work in the same way.

Enjoyed the video Scott. Would like to see you do a video on layers ... how ... and even when you should or should not use them. It seems that everything I do is in develop, effects, portrait or local. I know I must be missing something since it seems that everything in photoshop is done in layers. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

For my style of photography, the important thing is selective application of various filters and adjustments. Effects and local adjustments, each of which can be masked, provide a whole lot of what layers traditionally provide. I turn to layers when I need to combine more than one frame into a single composite image. Here is a reasonably recent example. scottdavenportphoto.com/blog/quick-easy-seascape-composites-in-post-492 The layering happens to be done in Photoshop, but the principles apply to anything that has layers, including ON1. Another place is for texture blending. I think Layers provide more flexibility. An oldie but goodie: scottdavenportphoto.com/products/texture-blending-in-on1-layers

Thanks for this Scott. Another informative video and very helpful. I wonder if you have any thoughts about Split Toning and Colour Balance? Is one better suited to certain images than the other?
@ScottDavenport3 жыл бұрын
Hi David ... I don't think it's a matter of better/worse. The primary difference is the Color Balance filter gives you three tones to work with. I suppose, in general, for a scene with challenging lighting (think indoors, color tinted lighting, etc.) the Color Balance filter will give you a little more control over adjusting midtones separately from shadows and highlights.
