There's a couple of profound statements in this video: 10:43 "Everybody knows somethin' you don't. Pay attention, right?" 12:44 "It's not how good you are. It's how good you fix your mistakes. Some of my best work has been hiding mistakes."

Sometimes you see a "how to" video and realize that there's no way in hell you can do it and make it look good. This is one of those times. Tim really knows his stuff. I know I can't do what he does, but the talk about using PVC foam and sheet was informative for some lesser, easier projects I want to do. Thanks for making this video.

Very nice work. But on a positive note, you can do this at home guys and for cheap! Don't be discouraged by the 20k price. He's earned that from having years of experience but this can be done for less than 50$ without the cost of leather of coarse. You could wrap in many things tho. And you can build the frame with sheetmetal, wood, plastic old signs(ha). Keep it simple. And then be proud of your shit. Thanks Scotty

MrKboat, Respectfully, I think he's actually asking a leading and well considered simple *stream of questions that may appear 'simple' when in-fact they are open-ended to provide the builders the opportunity to describe (and connect) their craft and how they how they approach their work. It is not obvious but take a look again this or another vid from this perspective. No assumptions, a lot of information get passed on and an enjoyable rapport. 22min unbroken. Since every one is custom every fold and seam is a challenge, tweek, and opportunity. From what adhesive is used -very important. "Will there be storage in there?" Sure.. but he is deferring. IMO the guy is ridiculously humble and is smart to let the pro talk. Yes, he is not asking, "DId you go with a flat tappet or a roller cam and why not Carrillo rods?" If you notice, his vids always flow well which is usually not the sign of the uninformed. I get what your saying 100%, when he does not know too. He is always sharp to get the subject flushed out. I am a fan for the same reasons. We must have similar taste. FTW.

Chandler Gaines I've used everything from simple L brackets with self tapping screws on my first build to custom molded fiberglass/reinforced body filler with imbedded hurricane nuts and L bracket for strength in odd locations where more contact area was needed. Basically I took the L bracket and extended it using fiberglass cloth/ Matt and reinforced body filler to even out the shape. One of them with 4 mounting holes kind of looked like Boba Fetts ship slave 1

Chandler Gaines Bolted. If its not bolted it acts as a projectile and all that hard work goes literally out the windshield in the case of an accident.

Excellent work! Wish I had the talent to massage leather into a beautiful piece of furniture ! I have built one console in my years for a '93 Plymouth Voyager. Needed a two way radio console for a series of four radios and a controller for a light bar. Made it out of 1/4" plywood and had it professionally upholstered in a matching vinyl leatherette. Had a pair of cigarette lighters on the back side and a drop down panel in the front to hold the fuse block for the radios. It was equipped with a lid that folded to the back that could be removed when in the field for emergency work. Wish I had kept the console when I sold the van.

Good people don't go to heaven is simply stating that most people think that their good works buys them a ticket into heaven. This is not true. People who go to heaven are those who put their trust in the finished work of Christ and then are born again. Jesus stated himself that you must be born again. You no longer live for yourself, but you have been bought (purchased) with a price. There are no good works that will pay your way into heaven.

Truly amazing to watch an artist work. I too am a craftsman but I've never had the opportunity to work with PVC foam or expensive leather, but I really appreciate the chance to watch. I work in woods and steel but nothing nearly this exotic. You have inspired me to attempt a console for my 89 F150. Nothing too fancy but I have a better understanding of how to approach the challenge. I especially appreciate the lessons in planning. Nothing goes in that can't come out, I like that, and I'm sure it will help me. Since it's my first console, I'll give it a couple of months of thought before I start to design. Fortunately, I don't do this for a living, so I can afford to be completely comfortable with acquiring parts and developing a design, before I start. I know these are things that you have repeated and learned from so many times. You make it look so easy but then that's the difference between a beginner like me and a pro like your. Keep up the great work.

Thank you very much for this video and sharing this talent. Engine building, body work, and other aspects I have done for years. I have just started getting into the interior work and you made this very easy to understand how leather reacts to heat and glue. My latest project is a 91 Pick-up and I am going to try and match your console techniques. (First pick-up after 9 F Bodies). The first thing I learned was the fact that leather is too damn expensive, but still cheaper than farming out the work. Thanks again for posting. @ 19:35 those little brackets on the back side of the lights are those also made from foam board…? How did he attach those curved strips (the light hole backside bracket) I don’t see screws or anything or did he just use glue for them…? Also if u don’t mind So it starts with foam board Then the blocking with wood Then the 1/8th “ foam board But then it looks like there’s like a yellow color material right above the black foam board… what material is that? Getting ready to make something similar so any info I’d greatly appreciate it’ Also for the cup holder slider lid did he just use like aluminum u channel attached to the foam board for the track? And sorry 1 last question where the circle lights will be how does he connect like that piece of the console to the dash…? Or is it just screwed to the floor pan and just sits up next to dashboard if that makes sense

for the sliding door, did he use just extruded aluminum channel? and did he screw it to the pvc board or to the wood blocks?I'm looking to do the same on my 70 Camaro pro street and also fabricate a dash with an oval gauge cluster like some other custom dash boards I have seen. awesome work.

ScottieD....I don't know whether you know or not, but it would be interesting to know how he bent the center portion of the console to get the curves to it. Someone below asked the same question, and the reply was to heat it. That may very well be true, but to heat something up, there are many ways to do it. I would assume a heat gun, but then again it may be something else. Also I would like to know (if you know) what he formed the piece around to get the curves to it. TIA.

Ask them facebook.com/Pro-Auto-Custom-Interiors-by-Steve-Holcomb-387344154615199/ They use a heat gun....and for bigger things a salamander...it really doesn't matter as long as it will get the plastic sheet to a temp it can be molded....

I am interested in the sliding door you installed. Is it a PVC type material and slides on an aluminum track? That is a nice trick, good thought and execution. Have you thought of a "Tambour" door type that can curve as it slides to hide a row of switches, gauges or other things? Just thinking outside the box or console.

Just curious, what is the white material you use for the sides and for the curved fascia where the cup holders are, Ill watch the video again incase I missed it but looks awesome as you already know but I love it, I made a console to fit an old 1960 car and it came out well, but I love the curve internals where the cup holders go and the sliding lid.

Ok, the contoured insert with the cup holders and hole for the radio control looks like its foam of some sort. Can you briefly describe whats made out of and how its able to curve around without breaking? This is a great video. I never thought of using PVC sheet, I was just going to use luan sheet. The plastic is a better idea I think.
