There is a park in Glasgow where I live, pollock Park and they breed Highland cows for competitions there I go sometimes in summer with my brother and such and we go into a forest where they roam freely, and you wouldn't believe how close the calves come up to us, even the adults, we can be within 2-5 feet of them no problem, the adults don't bat an eyelid , very trusting, but the calves are so inquisitive Got some great photos of me and bro right beside them The horns on the adults are enormous too, it took us a few visits to realise how close we could get without fear of those horns being used on us 😂

Older breeds of cows like this and Finnish cattle seem to be more intelligent and curious than those higher producing newer breeds.
@rskye112 жыл бұрын
@@jpm83 Not to be "that person" on the internet, but Scottish Highland cattle are actually a relatively newer breed. Holstein-Friesian cattle, which are the major milk producers of the world originated around 100 B.C. when the Hesse people, displaced by flooding, migrated to the shores of the North Sea and interbred their cattle with the Frisii tribe's cattle, thus forming the genetics for our modern day milkers. Scottish Highlands have only been around since the late 1800s when Scottish farmers decided to breed an extremely cold-hardy breed and keep herd books of their progress. Scottish Highlands are as tolerant of cold as a caribou! Now, the newest breed of cattle is actually still in development in the U.S. and is called the Salorn. The Salorn is comprised of 5/8 French Salers and 3/8 Texas Longhorn blood. I guess you don't have to be smart to be delicious.
@123TeeMee2 жыл бұрын
@@jpm83 Older milkers would have been more intelligent and curious than modern milkers, but for some reason, we branched off some of those old cows into different cows with more intelligence and curiosity, which isn't as useful so only happened lately.
@123TeeMee2 жыл бұрын
@@jpm83 Minimising the brains of a cow that's controlled and exploited, while maximising its meat output, works out ethically. You'd be killing many more brain cells with old cows. And cows might have the best meat to mind ratio of anything, although the fact these highland cows can be so clever and still be cows is a bit disturbing I guess.

Cats are actually intelligent enough to understand different species and treat them differently. In comparison, most domesticated animals see other species as variants of their own. So the cat response would be more akin to the human response to a cute,fluffy, large animal. Although, the cat empathy and care is generally relegated to the juveniles of a species, which they can also tell apart.
