Honestly, it’s pretty sweet to see how these grounds generally look pretty cozy, given it’s the third tier
@gordon1545 Жыл бұрын
As you can probably tell from the variety of grounds, at this level of Scottish football you get a mix of full-time clubs that are going through a relatively low period in their history, and part-time clubs. Falkirk and Dunfermline have had long spells in the Scottish top flight and Queen of the South are usually in the second tier. Airdrie have slipped a long way and their attendances are now too small to support full time football. At the other end, Kelty Hearts are the main beneficiaries of the new Scottish football pyramid, rising from the sixth tier to the third in (effectively) four seasons.

Very true, though Cove might argue with 'main' having gone 5 to 2 in five seasons. Its interesting to note that noone that has gone down has come back up and vice versa though this season is testing that with Bonnyrigg in a relegation battle and Brechin in a title battle.
@Kioxx7 Жыл бұрын
A bit sad tbh. When I was a kid you had Dunfermline in the SPL, Falkirk and Clyde fighting to get in the SPL and the start of QOS becoming a stable first division team rather than the second division team they were before. Now Dunfermline keep bouncing between the Championship and League One, Airdrie can't get out of League One, Falkirk have slipped from being a top end Championship level team and Clyde have been going through hell for about 15 years now all because they let the First Division league title slip from their hands to Inverness in 2004.

As a Motherwell fan I've been to 5 of these stadiums and Brockville, Falkirk's former stadium. Palmerston is a great old style Scottish football ground. Unfortunately it has a major seagull problem, at least the last time I was there! Better wear a wipe down wide brimmed hat if you are planning to go there! My favorite lower league ground though is Stranraer's in League 2. A charming mix of Soviet concrete bus shelters and magical elf woodland.

I've been to over 200 football grounds in Scotland and Meadowbank stadium is easily the worst. They had a blank canvas and they built... this. Three low seated rows on the wrong side of a running track. In the front row the barrier actually runs right through your view. It's a terrible place to watch a game of football and it's not only home to FC Edinburgh, it also hosts Hibs women, Leith Athletic and another women's side, Boroughmuir Thistle.
@TheMrPeteChannel Жыл бұрын
Stadiums with running tracks can look beautiful. Look up Franklin Field in Philadelphia USA.
@gordon1545 Жыл бұрын
@@TheMrPeteChannel They can, and actually what was there before Meadowbank was rebuilt was better. It was a big, steep stand so you could get a bit of elevation and a decent view. You can barely get any height at all now.
@GrahamMacdonald-w9o2 ай бұрын
I grew up in the east of Edinburgh and watched about a hundred Meadowbank Thistle home matches between 1974 and 1983 before moving away. The stadium had become a bit of a white elephant after the 1970 Commonwealth Games. The main stand was enormous but when you have crowds of 100-200 in a stadium that holds 5,000, with a running track between the stand and the pitch, the atmosphere wasn't very good. Hence Meadowbank Thistle upped sticks and went to Livingston in 1995. I haven't been to Edinburgh since the redevelopment took place but the seating numbers look about right for the likely attendances, especially, as the crow flies, Meadowbank is only a little over a quarter of a mile from Easter Road, the home of Hibernian. I remember watching Meadowbank when Hibs were playing at home and you could hear all the cheers fro the supporters at that other ground.

As a Queen of the South fan, first, it is an embarrassment that we have dropped low enough that in 2015 we were challenging for promotion into the Scottish Premier League and now we are circling the drain in the third tier of Scottish football. How time flies and exposes weaknesses, and their over-reliance on Club Legend Stephen Dobbie (who has been working as an interim Head Coach with another old haunt of his, Blackpool in the English Championships of recent). Secondly, Palmerston is a crumbling dump. The seagulls are horrific, as they are around Dumfries in general, especially between about 12-2 and 5-7 pm i.e. meal times. The Teregles Street End Wall is protected so they can't touch it even though they probably should because it's falling apart, so Plan B was disguising the mess with murals of historic moments in the club's history by a local artist, including the famous moment of former Chairman Davie Rae running in his iconic yellow anorak out onto the field when we qualified for the 2008 Scottish Cup Final (we were beaten by Rangers). I usually use the terraced area when I go with my Dad, but a word of advice, if this applies to you, DO NOT use the ladies' Portakabin toilets which are unsanitary, frequently without toilet roll and soap, and the cubicle doors don't close properly. Says EVERYTHING that they can't be bothered to get that right, apparently it's too much for women and girls to expect anything other than a horrendous experience using a convenience. Call it a bee in my particular bonnet. I experienced the windiest game of football in my life at Palmerston too, Queens vs Falkirk in the 2015 Championship playoffs. It's a miracle anyone could kick a ball anywhere. Multiple layers, hats and gloves were worn that day I promise you. I am actually glad I was standing, it gave me an excuse to move a bit to keep the circulation flowing in my legs. By the end of last season, BOTH teams were relegated from the Championships, Falkirk having gone in 2019, and look to have embarked on long-term rebuilds, whether either is successful, remains unclear. PS - at the back of the terrace area you will find the takeaway snack concession built into the stand's structure. Usually makes decent tea.

Its ALL-oa not all-O-a and mont-ROSE not MONT-rose. Contrary to another comment, Clyde FC DID play at New Douglas Park in 2022-3 but may be moving next season to a ground in the east of Glasgow, however who the f*** are "Hilton Academicals"?? Also, the Falkirk Stadium is shared by Falkirk FC and East Stirlingshire of the Scottish Lowland League. Must try harder in future.
