For such a big and historic city, the stadiums are very underwhelming. Thanks for informing us about that.

There is also a smaller Clujana stadium with about 2.000 seats which used to host some second league games of U Cluj while Cluj Arena was under construction and currently hosts the 3rd league semi-amateur team Sanatatea Cluj. Although this team is less known, it did make some surprises in the Romanian Cup over the last 15 years.

chair umpire "quiet please this isn't the Australian Open". The Olympic complex with the tennis, aquatics and track and field is beautiful. Looks like some parts could do with some renovations but I love the classic Greco/Roman style and the statues.
@Kevin_C_Leonard_63Күн бұрын
Tennis wasn't in the Olympics in 1960. It would take a couple more decades at least before it would be included.
@neilwhitaker6284Күн бұрын
@@Kevin_C_Leonard_63 Its not really relevant to my comment. The tennis stadium and complex was built as part of a larger project built between 1928 and 33 in hopes of Rome being awarded the 1940 Olympic Games. Hence what I called "the Olympic complex". Obviously there ended up being no Olympics in 1940 so its moot what sports were being played or not being played.

I've been at the cricket ground when a ball hit an apartment window. The glass is pretty sturdy as some of the windows are the height of the entire floor, so they crack internally but don't shatter. Don't know if it's true, but I've heard it mentioned that the cricket club have an agreement to pay for any windows that break.

Those pictures of the Memorial Stadium are out of date, the South Stand and Southwest Stand (the "tents" at the bottom end) were replaced a couple of years ago. They're planning to redevelop the East Stand and Thatcher's End next. The picture of the outside of SGS is also out of date - the grass pitch surrounded by a running track is now a 4G American football field, used by the SGS Pride and the Bristol Apache. And Bath City's ground was also home to Bristol Rovers for around 10 years, before they moved into the Memorial Stadium in 1997.

1:03 Two fun facts about the Estadio de Techo. It's located right next to one of the two main amusement parks of Bogotá: Mundo Aventura. During matches, you can see some of the rides. The name of "Techo" doesn't come from the Spanish word for "roof". It comes from the old indigenous (Muisca) name that the zone had. Before the conquistadores conquered Bogotá, the area was called Techotiva, and it became Techo when shortened. That name remained for a long time. However, in the 1960s the localidad (administriative division of Bogotá) where Techotiva is located was renamed Ciudad Kennedy. It was named after JFK because he visited Bogotá during his campaign for the Alianza Para el Progreso program. Also, there were houses that were donated by the US in the context of said program. Since that renaming, the localidad has been known just as Kennedy, and the neighborhood is called Techo. I'd say most Colombians don't know this and they also think the name has something to do with roofs, so I don't blame you haha.
