I'm Scottish and my favourite breakfast roll has tattie scone, lorne sausage(square slice) and an egg on top,the best ever meal in a morning roll,always pan fried,deep fried are too greasy,you can dry fry them on a pan or skillet like flatbread when you're making them to eat later or freeze and then fry them in fat when your going to eat them,enjoyable video,tattie scones look great,I have relatives in Dumfries and Galloway,I know of Castle Point Caravan Park I think you mean Beeswing that's where Loch Arthur is

i actually use a gridle pan and i dust the pan with plain flour and put the scones on the gridle pan when hot, yours look great, and shallow fry with olive oil and remove the excess oil by placing the scones on kitchen paper and eat them with my breakfast, i add a dash of olive oil to my tattie scone mix

Actually they are more eaten with square Lorne sausage and pan fried rather than deep fried only chip shops or fast food places deep fry. It's mainly used with breakfast fry up, bacon, egg, sausage and black pudding & beans. The favourite from take out is a bread roll with potato scone and fried eggs or bacon. And your rattle scones do not look the least bit over cooked they look just perfect

Just about to make some of these but wanted to double check the ratio of flour for leftover mash. Loved your take on it, but what's all this about tattie scones and haggis? Breakfast. With slice sausage middle bacon, and eggs. Haggis should be served with mashed potatoes and turnips, but the HP sauce is spot on. 😁

@@howtomakedinner Ahh, I've never had a tattie scone from a chip shop / takeaway but yeah their rolls aren't usually real butter. Used to work near a place here in Edinburgh that made their own rolls and tattie scones, either pork link or beef square with a scone and brown was such a lift to a bad day. You get such good butter in Scotland there's really no point in using marge, unless of course you're using it every day and multiple meals then sure, health. But a couple times a week... go for butter.

That is very similar to Irish potato bread...I made some a couple times, then started editing the basic recipe. A few thoughts: 1) Because of this video, I now know how "scone" is pronounced in Canada. (You're up north if memory serves) 2) The salt & pepper are necessary if you're not adding anything else. By itself, potato bread lacks flavor. That's why I started adding things like paprika, curry powder, chopped & sauteed garlic, etc. You can also add a little grated cheese to the mix; any hard cheese will do. (If you're feeling British, make it Stilton!) 3) Based on my sources, the ratio of mashed potatoes to flour should be 4:1 by weight. If you go by that then you don't need to think about arbitary amounts; however much potato you have, add 1/4th the weight of flour, no prob. 4) In Ireland they "dry-fry" it. No oil involved; they just sprinkle a little flour in the pan to keep the patties from sticking. I cook 'em that way if the plan is to freeze 'em afterward. They can always be fried in a little oil after thawing out later. 5) Props for using a cast iron pan! 👍 I've been wanting one (or two) lately...
@howtomakedinner
@howtomakedinner 5 жыл бұрын
+Schechter Arts whoa so interesting!! Do they have a “porridge drawer” in Ireland too? It’s a way to keep leftover porridge and just let it set at room temp and slice it as you need it!
@schechter01
@schechter01 5 жыл бұрын
@@howtomakedinner 😳 ...this might be another language difference. In the States, "porridge" is oatmeal. You know, served hot, maybe with brown sugar in it or raisins, etc. Like breakfast cereal but with less sugar & no food dye. 😏 Unless you're doing it as a biology experiment, nothing good will come from letting a bowl of oatmeal sit at room temp for a long time, in a drawer or otherwise... It might look interesting but you wouldn't want to _smell_ the stuff, let alone taste it.
