When some people see Mokko (and family) living like this they think 'he's so poor'; when they see the Scotsman living like this,, they say he's pursuing a 'simple life'. Now you have a bit more understanding why some rasta live this way, it's a lifestyle choice, they don't want the stress of Babylon!

Ratty is such a cool little man. He knows so much about plants, farming, and the natural world. I also love how Mokko is totally accepting of his European Rasta neighbors. No crying about cultural appropriation from the real Rasta!!! Even if some freak chopped his dreads off he is still a Rasta inside. No one can take that away from him.
@Locopueblo2 жыл бұрын
hi, island girl here. No one appreciates cultural appropriation or gentrification in the islands. NO ONE. Both actions require forgetting the natives but using their culture for recreation. This guy on the other hand hasn't appropriated anything so it makes sense why Mokko was so welcoming. Being a rasta is a way of life..a lifestyle..not a race. In the states, many white people take from black culture without giving a fuck about the people and their life..thats the crime of cultural appropriation. Jamaicans are very aware of the country's history and colonizers so yes, everyone hates cultural appropriation.

Actually living in an unimproved, thirdworld, tropical environment is not for the citified or faint of heart. Not if "living the life of a local" as opposed to being a tourist with people taking care of you for a couple of weeks. Putting up with insects, heat, humidity, rain, storms, no plumbing, cold showers, sketchy electrical service, wood burning for cooking... takes a whole lot of weed to keep your mind off it. 😂

I lived in Jamaica and worked as "volunteer/trainee". I had plans to move there as many people do. Looking into it, the bottom line if you want to immigrate, or just have status on your passport to go and come, REGISTER AS A BUSINESS OWNER, AND HAVE AN ADDRESS TO USE AS YOUR BUSINESS. This way, as a foreigner, you can go through the ministry of housing, or whoever regulates the property in Jamaica. This way, you don't need a Jamaican national to "oversee" or be responsible for your stay. You become the one responsible as a registered business owner. I have the paperwork to refer to if una interested you hear. More love! Matthew, you wouldn't have any problem as it look like the address is there already. Ratties ĺooks are really taking shape now. He's such a 'lovable child.' He does really add to the show with his presence and young outbursts getting his say involved. He makes me smile.

Depending on where you travel in the world you kinda have to change the pronunciation of things if you have a Scottish accent. Most of us speak Scots, which a lot of people aren't used to hearing so it confuses even English people. In the summer i work in England with groups people from all over the world, and i have to basically switch into a different mindset otherwise no one will have a clue what the fuck i'm on about. Even right now i'm not typing at all how i'd talk in person, it looks like perfect English on paper but if i spoke it would be slightly different. Google the word "Diglossia", we're not bilingual but not far from it.
