Using drugs in public is illegal in Canada, however the possession of small amounts of hard drugs was decriminalized because prosecuting and punishing people for addiction is cruel and isn't an effective way to curb and reduce this issue I do agree that the bill that was implemented should be scrutinized because not taking the necessary steps to rehabilitate while implementing decriminalization policies is going to fail. The right move is to rehabilitate and decriminalize, no one should be punished for addiction, these drugs are evil and they take a hold of us and it's very hard to free yourself for that grip

Every time people talk about decriminalization they always mention Portugal (4:03). Portugal didn't simply allow everyone to use drugs legally, they did a health project around drugs. They introduced this subject at school to warn students, they made loads of campaigns AGAINST drugs, and they HELPED drug users with free medical care and psychological help - which it didn't happen before since they could end up in jail. They decriminalize the USE of drugs to HELP people, not to make profit since it's still ILLEGAL to sell drugs.
@flaviagdcfung9799
@flaviagdcfung9799 Жыл бұрын
In Portugal is not illegal own a small amount of drug in your pocket. People are allowed to use drugs, people were dying in the 80s and 90s. The law change to help people and to stop them to share needles 💉 and control infection/diseases, they gave the kit and offer help. The problem still excites but not in an apocalyptic manner. Not sure if that is the same thing???? Yes I grew up with posts in school, doctors hospitals , trains or underground 🚊. It makes me wonder if the problem is in the drug or people??looks like a very strong drug and people they can’t get away from it. Portugal did so to stop people to share needles to control transmitted diseases by the sharing/couples and new borns.

You can’t just decriminalize drugs and then do nothing else. They have to provide regulation of those drugs, housing and treatment for the addicted like she mentioned.
@ChoppedBananas
@ChoppedBananas Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I support decriminalizing because drug addiction is typically a mental health issue, but you can't just legalize and walk away. You have to address the mental health portion of it. Here in the U.S. we just throw them in the prison system which makes the situation worse as well.
@JMD533
@JMD533 Жыл бұрын
If prohibition doesn’t work, what makes you think regulation will? If the regulated drugs are more expensive due to that regulation as well as taxes, why won’t addicts keep getting it from the guy down the street that has it cheaper, even if it’s stepped on?
@raincheck01
@raincheck01 Жыл бұрын
@@JMD533 because the guy down the street won’t exist. Where are all the alcohol bootleggers and illegal moonshine distillers now? People in general want to have safety including addicts. When the government is getting taxes from it all they get rid of or legitimize the guy down the street. Also, as we see in California, prices are very competitive now for thc products because there are so many options for where to buy. Ultimately though the goal is to help people get clean not enable them as is being done in this situation. The reason it has worked in other countries is the end goal wasn’t just harm reduction, it was actually helping people get clean.

@justified004
@justified004 Жыл бұрын
@JMD533 you're not wrong, but the key to legalization with regulation is to not half ass it and allow time for the regulations to have an impact. Take alcohol for example, the amount of laws around not juat the sell but the production of it makes it hard to for illegal activity around it to take place. Too many lawmakers miss that point. So when they just make it legal I. A place like Vancouver, they don't do everything else that comes with it from regulating the sells to taxing to programs to deal with addicts.

I think this video has done more to dissuade me from hard drugs than anything in school did. We even had a guy who recovered from a heroin addiction and showed pictures of his rotting leg from using dodgy needles before it was amputated. We also had families of people who lost their children or siblings to drugs but man seeing this makes it seem so much worse because you actually see it on a real person. It's no longer just a horror story, it's a human being and the state of that city with literally every street filled with users passed out or being mugged or ODing right there is insane. I'm glad this was documented.

@@SimSimi.ツ Yes, it was their decision. But you have to realise something even more horrible. Why they took it in the first place? Today, coping with fast life, stress, virtually no future... It is really hard to stay positive when you look around and try to live your life. Many people just give up life for a bit of pleasure inside their own heads. Many of those people were abused. Sometimes so hard, that a "normal" person hearing their stories would say they are lying. Just because a lot of people can't believe the hell, other people can create. So don't be so fast in judgement. And Canada made something even more horrible. Removing sanctions without preparing other possibilities for those people should be considered as a crime.

There are generational curses, and all types of different things that we must deal with as families... I know very much about addiction, and I can tell you. Your mom didn't have a choice. The definition of addiction itself, implies that the addict has no choice. If not they would choose something different, but they can't. You think your mom let you down? That she wasn't strong enough for you ? If it was a question of strength, strong people would easily overcome addiction... its commonly agreed upon that it's not a question of strength though..

As a recovering illicit opioid addict myself it's all too clear that not only is there not enough funding to programs to helps people and get the dealers/supplies removed, most of these people probably don't want help. It wasn't until i learnt about a virtual opioid treatment clinic in my province AND i wanted to stop that i started the road to recovery. As horrible as it sounds, making sure people can use safely and there is help should they want it is probably the most viable long term solution.

I know someone who went to a Dr after a car accident, and the very first drug the Dr prescribed was oxytocin. This patient voiced their fears about taking such a strong drug, and what the Dr told her was this " As long as you take it as I prescribe it, you will be fine," She was not fine after 3 years of taking it the Dr told her he could not give her anymore. Just cut her off. So where do you think she ended up? Buying it on the street.

Unfortunately, there are A LOT of stupid people on south Vancouver Island and on the interior/greater Vancouver area ... in addition to the GTA and QC. This is all a result of 9 years of far lunatic left Trudeau liberal policies. Cultural Marxism is an absolute cancer on humanity and just destroys any society that is stupid and brainwashed enough to implement it... This really is the fault of Gen Z; those betweeen 18 and 27 years old - they are responsible for almost ALL of this because of who and what they vote for. Thankfully, the more they want this and vote for people like the complete nutjobs they vote for on south Vancouver Island, the more they f-ck themselves... Knowing 90+% of them **will be renting for the rest of their lives** because of what they've done to this country by voting in a WEF deep state lunatic like Trudeau 3 TIMES, I guess is justice enough. It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see..." "You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?" "No," said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, "nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford. "It is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards?" "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?" "What?" "I said," said Ford, with an increasing air of urgency creeping into his voice, "have you got any gin?" "I'll look. Tell me about the lizards." Ford shrugged again. "Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happenned to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it." "But that's terrible," said Arthur. "Listen, bud," said Ford, "if I had one Altairian dollar for every time I heard one bit of the Universe look at another bit of the Universe and say 'That's terrible' I wouldn't be sitting here like a lemon looking for a gin.

I've never been to Portugal (except for a vacation as a kid like 10 years ago) but the decriminalization is having mostly opposite effects there, right? My knowledge only stems from what I've seen in statistics or reports but from that Portugal always seemed to have a really progressive and good handling of drug use with comparatively low rates of addiction and no senseless punishments for addicts. Is that a (more or less) accurate view? I'd love to hear experience, knowledge or opinions as a native!

I live in Vancouver, and this is incredibly accurate. I'm honestly amazed you didn't get jumped for your camera/footage. The dealers don't want to be on camera obviously, but even the junkies are employed as dealers to help pay off their debts. I was hoping you might touch on the closing of Riverview Mental health Clinic in this, as I feel this is largely a mental health issue that has spawned a drug epidemic. Vancouver used to have a mental health program (Riverview hospital) but it closed due to patient abuse, but the result was everyone was put onto the streets and found drugs. Now there is a massive mental health and drug epidemic with zero infrastructure to maintain it. Shocking to say the least

This was merely a brief attempt at saying that Tyler does a good job presenting facts. It's not that deep of a a comment. Yes, he has biases but I didn't say that he, himself, on his own time, is unbiased. I did say that he is an unbiased reporter. Meaning that Tyler presents the facts on the issues he investigates. The amount of car break-ins we had and the angry guests yelling at me and demanding refunds - I had to turn them down and still charge them for parking.
