Glastonbury gates open as first fans through praise festival as ‘religious’ experience

Revellers among the first to arrive at Glastonbury Festival have praised it as a “community” and a “religious” experience.
Organiser Emily Eavis, stood without her father and festival founder Sir Michael Eavis, led those queuing in a countdown before she opened the gates to the Worthy Farm showpiece at 8am on Wednesday morning.
Ollie Howarth from London was at the front of the queue to be one of the first through Glastonbury’s gates along with his friends Owen Ellis and Beth Albuery, both 29 and also from London.
“We got the coach at 4am from Bristol and then managed to make it to the very front of the queue,” the 30-year-old who works in finance told the PA news agency.
“We saw Emily Eavis… it’s cool to actually see it from the very start.

You just walked in during the 80s. There was all kinds of stuff going on including fields for families and kids, crafts, alternative technology, people baking bread and cakes and…brownies. 90s came along with fences, Brit-pop, lager-culture, cynicism, major breweries and multinationals sponsoring stages… it was over.

Glastonbury gates open as first fans through praise festival as ‘religious’ experience 1242pm 26.6.24 they, the fans, are well banging before they even enter the gates.... i have never been to glasto (as they affectionately call it)...due to fiscal issues not due to any overt desire to see it as some damnable provocation to the higher eschelons of society or a challenge to the hegemony of doom... i once ended up in glastonbury town centre and slept under a bench, if that's any use to you.... found the guys to be pretty ignorant, throwing slugs at folk and the like.... hahahah...... sadly, my 1990's era has passed and that would have been my halcyon period of fun coupled with decent music.... i have missed my opportunity. damn them!!!! hard cheese, as they say. good luck to you religiously inspred guys, though. let's hope the kids behave themselves as they hope to die before they get old...
