Not that unbelievable. The football landscape was much different years ago. Teams that you would hardly have heard of were doing big things then. These days you could nearly guess which teams were going to make it to the quarters of the Champions League, except maybe the odd shocker. It's all about the money nowadays rather than a level playing field (if you'll excuse the pun) back then. By level playing field I mean where teams were made up of lots of guys from the same country, all playing for the badge and not the cash, and not a bunch of spoilt millionaires/mercenaries from all over the globe who only want more dish. will always remember a midweek game at Tannadice in 85 or 86 when having left on the bus around 5.30pm from Paisley we arrived in Dundee to be told 20 mins before kick off the ref called it off due to waterlogged pitch. With hundreds off us outside raging having taking half days or left early from work Jim Mclean walked out to speak to us and told us every one would get in free at the rearranged game and United would pay for our buses. Class. Not the only late awayday call off due to weather ive suffered but the only time the other manager came out and sorted it. He may not have suffered a fool gladly and tied players from a young age to contracts that would be criminal now but he was from a different time and how many fans wish we could go back to that time when money meant little as clubs werent playing to the agents tune and he understood the sacrifices and hurt everyday people made to follow their team.

@saints16o5o873 жыл бұрын
@@Crayfordceltic he was very much the Scottish Brian Clough. Worked wonders at a team who were not even the biggest club in their town. Both men made their clubs European forces against all odds and in spite of their size and the financial resources of the Manchester United or Liverpools or the Celtic and Rangers they were up against. Couldn't happen now which is why football no longer can have a genius manager overcome the odds favouring clubs with larger fan bases. The financial gap between a Forest or Dundee United and Manchester United or Celtic is so extreme now that no amount of managerial genius nor youth development will be allowed to close the gap. The money from billionaire Arabs or Americans will simply buy all the young talent or managerial genius if only to deny another Arab or American owned team that potential even if it means a young man gets paid millions of pounds each year to play in a youth team and fades into obscurity.
