Definitely. To be fair, they were in charge, made the decisions, made bad decisions, and got fired by the public as a result. What Reeves is suggesting is that a bunch of unelected people make her decisions for her and then they can blame the bureaucrats if it all goes wrong. I feel it's one of those things that sounds good on paper but in reality makes politicians less directly accountable and bureaucrats more powerful, and those bureaucrats can be influenced by outsiders much more because they're not under the same scrutiny that MP's are. Don't get me wrong, i'd rather Reeves in charge than any Tory, but I don't think this particular policy is a good idea - the level of scrutiny should be the house so i'd make that the ultimate arbiter and have it so that significant budget changes can't be made without the backing of the house; how to define significant is the tough part but the OBR should be an advisor only, and not an arbiter.

To think we had Hunt as chancellor who didn't have a clue about anything economics to Reeves who clearly knows her stuff , showing she is a trained economist. Hunt just read off the script and had no clue about anything

Hunt can't even remember the nationality of his wife. Can't expect him to handle tough subjects like Economics lol

Yesterday the Chancellor conjured a £20 billion fiscal black hole as expected. She did so to justify evading her promises and hiking your taxes. Tax hikes that Labour refused to admit to during the general election. Labour claim the challenges they've highlighted are ones they weren't aware of before. Despite the OBR making critical information publicly available. Despite Labour, as the then-opposition party, having privileged access to Treasury civil servants. The Chancellor expects you to believe she knew about none of this until a few weeks ago. It just doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Those impacted by yesterday's announcements, on Winter Fuel, scrapped education reforms and cancelled transport projects deserve better. As do those bracing for tax hikes in October, which are surely coming.
