I know Scottoil advise against dripping oil onto the front sprocket, but I've done exactly that on my last 2 bikes with no problem other than a few extra splots on the garage floor. I'd say 33k miles for the OE chain on a 900 hornet wasn't bad, Scottoiler fitted the 1st week. No unsightly pipe along the swingarm.
@AndyManCam6 жыл бұрын
It certainly sounds like a much tidier option. Might look into that for a cleaner swingarm. Cheers!

I'm not sure sure, I can't be certain, but I'm in some doubt as to whether you used enough cable ties there Mr.Cam! ;) Scottoiler is a very useful bit of kit and we have them on our bikes too. We do find we have to adjust the flow throughout the year as the temperature does affect the flow a fair bit. Once every 3 months or so. Also, our lad's one likes to clog up the dispenser "straw" at the end, so needs regular checking. Great video though, as always! Also, we bought one of the Kettenmax chain cleaners at your recommendation and find it works surprisingly well!

Thanks! I had my doubts too! I swear by these gadgets. They actually almost completely took away my hatred of chains and allowed me to consider the new bike because of it. But its oiling only outside of the Chain what is with inside part
@AndyManCam6 жыл бұрын
The chain itself is a sealed unit and the links are internally greased. The oil just keeps the chain wet, clean and lubricates between the rollers and the sprocket. Though Scottoiler do also have a dual nozzle attachment for those who are desperate for both sides to get the same oiling.

Would you still recommend getting a scottoiler? Thanks. MN
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. On my current bike I'm running a Tutoro because I didn't want the expense of the electric Scottoiler setup and I didn't want to cut into the vacuum pipes. But the Scottoiler has provided me with many happy miles of mostly chain maintenance free riding. Get the setup that works for you, but both are really very good.

@AndyManCam6 жыл бұрын
Isn’t it the other way around? Petroleum is oil based! In any case, no trouble after a couple of years of use. That said, i always found it too thin so I’ve switched back to using the proper Scottoiler branded stuff now.
@akaquatics22696 жыл бұрын
@@AndyManCam oil or petroleum based lubricants either term could apply. The point is either oil based or petroleum based lubricants whichever terminology you prefer are not o-ring safe lubricants o-rings require a synthetic lubricant that will not damage the o-ring. I guess I could have said is that oil based oil your using lol anyway ya you get the idea you would probably even get more life from your o-ring chain if you used an o-ring safe "lubricant".

Hi Andy, love your vids, think I’ve watched them all at least twice.. I know you took the Scottoiler off the older Versys, but do you know if it would fit/work on a new version of versys, 2017/18 model? Thanks
@AndyManCam6 жыл бұрын
+Chris Baker Thanks Chris! I don't see why it wouldn't work. As far as I'm aware, the newer model has the same EFI and throttle body parts as the older models. So the vac pipe should work as normal. I've been wrong before though! Maybe worth checking on the Scottoiler website. If the same model is listed for the '07 and 17/18 bikes then all good.

You can see what your chain and sprockets are doing Tony. With a scottoiler they don’t end up caked in goopy mess. Mine are still shiny even though I last cleaned them 6 months ago. Nice install, I've got a Tutoro installed on mine. Btw did you consider getting an exup eliminator to remove the servo motor thing? It's surprisingly heavy and using an eliminator frees up quite a bit of space. Are you planning on changing the coolant anytime soon? I have the ABS model with stock belly pan (the reg rect is located here on my model) so I'm not sure if it's the same placement but the coolant reservoir is practically impossible to get to (without a syringe and hose) and the engine side clutch adjuster is pretty damn difficult too.
@AndyManCam7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I hadn't really considered it tbh. Not sure what I would use the space for and not so worried about the weight. Maybe once I've upgraded or replaced everything else I'd consider it. I haven't considered the coolant change yet. Should really test the anti freeze effectiveness as my garage has no heating. Hopefully won't be too bad as I have non ABS version. We'll see!!
