You are single-handedly getting me back into drawing. Watching you work has already taught me so much, and I'm using mediums I'd never considered before. I can't wait until your book arrives on my doorstep (any day now). I hope you are getting the support you need to keep it up.

I've read everything and done every practice from the How to Draw book, and even though I am far from exhausting every bit of knowledge from the practices, I want MORE. So now it is a very eager and a long wait for How to Render book!

The advice of switching to a permanent pen has really helped me out as far as accuracy and definition go. I had such a "sketch-ish" drawing style and now I have much more confidence with my lines even with a pencil. It's like these levels of difficulty and impact with different pens. A pen like the brush pen is way up there, which teaches you to be super careful with every single line, because of the ink, and the way the brush tip is a more challenging tip than a typical one. Then you get any kind of ballpoint, soft-tip pen which still does a permanent mark, but which isn't as hard to master because the way the tip behaves is much more simple. And finally, you get something like a pencil, with a hard point, and a very forgiving intensity of the mark it makes on the page. It's just bizarre how much working with a brush pen a long time has changed the way I handle a pencil. As far as control goes, pencil suddenly feels super-easy. Making an accurate picture is just as hard or easy as it used to be, but the sort of overall control of drawing has been improved immensely. Thanks Scott!

Hey Scott have you ever been to Chiang Mai in Thailand? In the indoor Market there are some amazing artists who brush the graphite (dust)... the work they do there is INCREDIBLE. Usually they are tourist portraits, but their technique is amazing to watch. Cheers.

Good video like always. I would be interested to see you draw something out of your comfort zone to see you can design. Perhaps something very themed based like an over exaggerated cartoon vehicle or like a rugged zombie killing machine like locust vehicles that are in gears of war if you seen them.

You must be misunderstood, I didn't mean it as a way to prove me anything. It was a comment saying I would like to see how he goes about designing something of that nature. I know he is an excellent designer and teacher which is why I watched his DVDs and purchased books from him. There's nothing he could prove that he hasn't already to me.

One question - is the Webril pad in any way different from a cosmetic pad? Perhaps you can pass that question along to your wife for me :-) Great tips. Your videos are always chock full of advice and tips. Thank you so much for taking the time to put these out, Scott. I look forward to them every Friday!

It's very different. The Webril pads hold much more pigment and are more durable. One package will last you a very long time. The difference really shows up when using them with chalk though.

Hey Scott, i don't knowif you've already done a Question and Answer video. But it would be great if you could make one. For example i wanna know: How old have you been, when you decided to work as a Concept Designer and how old have you been when you started drawing serious ? Greetings from Germany.

Hey Scott! I'm a huge fan of your most recent How to Draw book. It's one of the best books I've ever read on technical sketching, and I will be reading it many, many times throughout the course of my life. I am curious, however, if the app will ever be updated for iOS. The videos will show up on the pages of your book, but they will not play, and it's been in that state for at least 3-4 weeks now. Apparently it's an issue with Google's servers. Has a solution been found yet? It's a shame, because I watched a few of the first videos before it broke, and they were fantastic. I really, really want to see the rest of them.
@scottrobertsondesign
@scottrobertsondesign 11 жыл бұрын
Believe me I ask myself this daily. :) You can of course watch all of the videos without the app. Just go to page 206, follow the URL there and enter the password. You can do this through the web browser on your phone or tablet if you like or on a PC. The only thing you will be missing is the fun app interface and the pop up 3D models. We have a solution BTW and are just waiting for the update to be approved.

This doesn't necessarily just have to be for Scott. But I just wondering what type of sharpener to buy that will last a long time and not destroy my pencils. I've had many different kinds, cheap and expensive with varying results. Does anyone know of a brand that I could get that would last a long time and not rust out or damage my pencils. Thanks in advance.

For me I use an x-acto powerhouse brand electric sharpener. It can eat your pencils if you aren't careful. It takes a light push for a sec or two to get a sharpened pencil. It's lasted me 5 years so far and no problems.

One thing you may want to invest in is a lead holder and lead pointer. It saves you a lot of pencil shavings and the length of your pencil does not change. Search "Staedtler Lead Holder" on amazon, you want the 2mm one. That is the one I use, I have not touched a wooden pencil since.

Helix Oxford Metal Pencil Sharpener. I got like 3 of them from staples in the art section. I did a brief search online and couldn't really find any except amazon but the price was kind of high. I've used a lot of different sharpeners though and none of them compare. This one is quick and always has a sharp point. Do not get the helix sharpener with the plastic bottom though, those are junk.
