You're going to make me cry, Lee! I miss you all too, and cherish our memories covering each and every one of you "door car" guys for the Gazette and on my web site....from AA Supercharged down to D/Gas. What a great, great group of people! I can see all of the waves to me when any of you would make eye contact with me in the water box. Ed Carey, Rob Patten. Jess Tyree, etc...all of you! The VRA was a terrific era. Maybe we'll make it out there again some day. Thanks for dropping the note. Merry Christmas!

So cool, Dawn! I love how you guys try all the different camera points of view. Love the gassers. I was fortunate to get to see them when they were running in the '60s. Thank you, John! You should make an effort to go next year. With Byron Dragway up for sale now, I am hearing that the event is supposed to go with it. Nothing is concrete, but I would go before an unfortunate situation brings that event to a close.

I've been drag racing since the early '90's. Seen my fair share of drag racing venues, the Meltdown is the best nostalgia meet out there. But be careful, it''s growing, and if you start trying to please everyone, it'll implode and be just another memory. The Meltdown doesn't need "winners" or any other type of trophy handout saying somebody is better than someone else. The ground is level at this event for every drag racer participating. It's for the guy or gal that "gets it". If you don't understand what I'm writing, than you're part of the problem.

I've been to two Southeast Gassers events. Have to say...those folks are pretty good at nostalgia 60's gasser events. Especially like this years 60's Super Stock class. Especially when you consider NO times or MPH shown on the board. Just a win light. Why...because they aren't recreating the 60's. They are re-enacting the 60's.

Hey man what's happenin. Well i just finished my second novel last night, writing is about the only way i deal with my suicidal depression . I've had this all my life and no it is not fun or enjoyable , making people laugh , like you make this crazy twisted ride a little more easier, living life a quarter mile at a time. It was just a few short events later, and that kid in the green Willys bit the wall on another wild burnout. He was okay, and the car is being fixed and readied for 2018. :-)

How was the crowd, compared with last year?

Friday and Saturday had the most people I have ever seen there. They were mowing down extra bean fields to accommodate parking needed on Saturday. A friend arrived the same time he always has on Saturday, and waited 45 minutes to get in. The crowd hung in there right up until the pin-up contest, which in my opinion is a momentum killer. By the time the evening portion of the show kicked off at 8, it had thinned out quite a bit. The heat/humidity didn't help either. Great event.
