Scotts® EvenGreen Drop Spreader - How To Use

How to set up and use the Scotts® EvenGreen drop lawn spreader. Apply garden care products on to your lawn at the recommended application rate.

Disregard my request for assistance two days ago. I figured out how to determine the correct setting for any material. I laid out a 2 x 3 meter sheet of plastic sheeting in my garage and marked out a 2.4 meter length along the middle of the sheet. It was an unused plastic drop cloth I had from a painting project and laying it down in the garage eliminated any of the material from blowing off of the sheet. After loading up the material and selected a random setting on the rate control dial, I made one pass along the 2.4 meter path. With a 43cm drop width, the 2.4 meter path is about 1 square meter. I scooped up the material on the plastic sheet and weighed it with a digital kitchen scale, then repeated the process two more times to determine an average for each rate control setting. In my case, a setting of 10 gave me 13g/m^2 for the seed I was using and a setting of 6 gave me 34g/m^2 for the fertilizer. This allowed me to make two passes on the lawn for the overseeding and one pass for the fertilizer. I also verified these settings by weighing the material at the start of each application and the material left in the hopper at the end of the application. Also, at about 03:59, he states to use the wheel impression in the lawn to line up the wheel on the spreader for the next path. Based on my use of this spreader yesterday, this is wrong and will create a significant gap in the material dropped on the lawn during each pass. The 43cm drop pattern is within the wheels of the spreader, so each pass must overlap the wheel path from the previous path.

Thumbs up for a very informative video. Just bought one of these and I was a little confused with the calibration and how to check it. Mine should have been factory set but after checking it, it was set up at number 8 so using your instructions reset it at number 6. Thanks!

I bought the EvenGreen drop spreader (sold as the Substral brand in Germany) for use on my 200 square meter lawn, but don't have access to any of the Scotts lawn products. I know the g/m^2 required for the seed and fertilizer, but can't find the Table G referenced in the EvenGreen manual for non-Scotts products. Is Table G hidden somewhere? I would like to know the correct setting for the EvenGreen so I can have 25g/m^2 on the seed and 30g/m^2 for the fertilizer (2.2mm - 3.5mm grains).

It’s a different model, but I would expect the settings to be used would be the same. There are differences in the components used in the assembly.

What's setting for seed

Seed settings depend on the type of seed (blue grass seed is small in comparison to fescue seed) and whether it’s just dirt (new lawn) or overseeding an existing lawn. So there is no single answer.

"Align ARROW with tire marks"...This is imprinted on top of spreader. Scotts does NOT recommend going over previous tire tracks for a reason.
