Hi JD Gator, thanks very much sometimes you get lucky, this one it’s a mess. Could write a couple of Novels on the funny stories on The Tragic Life some of these Lawn Mowers have lived! This Scott's he stored it sideways under his deck and expected it to just magically start right up for him again! I have found quite a few people that really should not own power equipment, but sure like getting there free stuff glad to see spring has arrived for you!

I just bought a John Deere lawn mower JS 63 C with the same kind of engine (121602) built on it. I notice that the engine smokes , maybe the head gasket is bad but when I removed the valve cover I noticed that there is just one valve oil seal below the inlet valve spring, on the outlet valve there is no seal. Can you tell me if this is common, so maybe I don't have to look further? I checked the valve clearence Here it was 4 times as wide (0.6 mm instead of 0.15 mm) Values from John Deere product manuel specification Intake Valve Clearance 0.10-0.20 mm (0.004-0.008 in.) Exhaust Valve Clearance 0.10-0.20 mm (0.004-0.008 in.)
