i was able to get a sponsorship from my local disc store after less than 6 months after starting the game because i approached them and they appreciated my attitude. i had only played three events and had 0 wins. all you gotta do is go after it!

I buy online a lot. But if I’m going anywhere it’s disc golf depot in Portland. Great people great selection and the have a great trade in value.

I like the way you make the disc golf “issues” with success seem so normal. Approachable from so many levels.

This is such great advice, and really could be applied to things in life outside of disc golf. I could see using this advice on job interviews, for instance. Great stuff, Scott! Thank you for your perspective and experience!

As a player who is not very good but with a sponsor who has only been playing for 6 months I can say that he is totally correct with this.

Love the time and dedication you have to educating players about more than just throwing. You're truly one of the best ambassadors for the sport and can't wait to see you on tour this year!

Scott I just wanna say that you look PHENOMENAL - I watched a couple of your older videos recently and even your face looks like it's lost a decade's worth of age. Great to see, and thanks for all the insight!

I greatly appreciate these types of videos. New player here and I've put alot of work into the game over the last year and was wondering how to take this to the next step. I plan on practicing and getting better for atleast another 6 months before starting any tournaments and a rating but im glad to know that it isnt based off of a rating or placements in tournies. I'm gunna build up the confidence and go out and search for a sponsor now!

We started our club with 5 guys officially at the end of last year. A sponsor approached us and we are getting reimbursements for tournaments and so much more. This is a great video and I’ll be using this advice to approach more in the future. Thanks Scott!

Also don't tie your worth as a sponsored player to your Disc Golf skill alone. If you're good with graphics, step up and offer to create marketing materials if there is a need there. If you're a fantastic organizer, run events, moderate social media platforms, offer to do managing for teams. I'm a player that is by no means a gifted talent (MA1 guy pushing the 940's), but I understand how my skills transfer over into Disc Golf. I get around a lot in the Northwest, run leagues, stay active in the community, provide graphics and media to other team members, genuinely love RPM's products and think more people should get to know their stuff, and continue to trend up regarding my own skill level as a player. These are all just a few brush strokes in the bigger picture of sponsorship. Take an inventory of your skills and what you can offer and just ask if there are needs in those areas. Companies love creative thinkers and individuals who show that they are invested in the success of their brand. Great video as usual Scott!

What a cool topic for a video! I think something that goes implied is the ability to self-assess one's value, which is an incredibly valuable skill (quite literally if you can do it and parlay that assessment into sponsorship). And, if in your analysis you still have concerns, well, that's something for you to work on and improve. I'd call it getting into sponsorship shape. Like, I've struggled with getting overly frustrated on the course and occasionally having outbursts. I recognize that's a challenge to being sponsored, and I recognize it's something I need to work on as a matter of self-improvement. Self-improvement, with an aim toward sponsorship, is just another form of getting in shape-setting up a series of sustainable changes (a system) that will result in progress toward betterment (a goal).

I am an 819 rated rec player and have had a sponsorship for 2 years. Lucky Disc Golf sponsors me because of my heavy social media presence and my influence in the disc golf community where I live. I am active everywhere I can be and Lucky sees that.

I live in a town with 80k people, a university, and beautiful PNW scenery, and no disc golf shop and only a 9-hole course. Huge bummer, but maybe a lot of opportunity for someone. I'm sure someone can guess what town it is

Do you live in a town that has a "City Park"...?? I live in a town in the Northwoods region of Wisconsin, Pop. 8,000 people, we have 3 courses outside of town. 1# 5 mile drive 2# 7 mile drive 3# 12 mile drive ( all 18 hole courses) we have a beautiful 25 acre city park along a beautiful scenic lake that I designed my own 18 hole course on, and an 15 acre city park that I measured out a 9 hole course in, I made my own lightweight, portable practice target/basket that I setup at each pin location ( xtra walking) and I play the holes and they are challenging. use the resources that you have available so you have more options.

So Scott, I am a 60 yr old relatively new disc golfer (2021) and have only played in one (Doubles) tournament so far, and you are saying I can get a sponsorship and get the financial help I need to go on tour full time? ( A - Tiers + B -Tiers + C - Tiers and not have to spend all my social security check on gas, groceries and registration fees when I retire in late 2024? Sign Me Up man!!

Thank you for this Video. You know, you encouraged me to try something I been wanting to do for a long time now even before Disc Golf, which is make videos. So, I am going to get a Camera and start making some videos of my journey in Disc Golf since I am still new only 2 months in now and hopefully create a Brand that can offer something to others as well as companies. I know it will be a long process but I have to try. I just want to ask one thing if you don't mind. What Camera do you use or would recommend that can pick up Disc Flights well?

Somewhat related.... I can't even get into metro tournaments here in MN. Every division literally fills up faster than I can refresh the pages. It's crazy. There are groups and things you can do to get advanced registration, but I have no interest in having a FB. I could also drive a couple hours to play smaller tournaments, but getting up at 5am or getting a hotel hasn't really felt worth it. Maybe I'm not really motivated enough, but it's rough out here. Anyways just a rant. Carry on!

Depending where in the cities you're at, you can look at other areas nearby such as Albert Lea, Austin, Rochester and then look and see if there's a way you can split that cost. I know people from the cities that are fairly regulars at Rochester events held by X-14 or J & J and I'd bet most have room for someone looking for a ride to and from to split the gas or what not. I do hear you that events fill up really fast so it may benefit you to be in a league that plays on evenings and when they have their own tournament, you can get pre-signed up before they put it online (or a reserved spot). Just throwing out ideas as I did notice cities tourneys filled pretty fast.
