Here is the 3rd train we caught on what was probably the most productive railfan day of 2023 (7-27). That day we caught the AC&J in the morning, rode the CVSR, then filmed the CVSR and the caught some W&LE highhoods. The links to those videos will be in the endscreen if you have not seen them. In this video 6777 and 6771 bracket the train as they make their round trip from Akron to Peninsula.

I'm just guessing that these FPA4s are retired VIA rail engines and are sisters of the Grand Canyon Rwy engines that were replaced by FP40s. There's a photo out there in the internet floating around with me in the engineer's seat of the 6776 getting qualified to run out there in Williams AZ. We had the 6776, 2 B units and the 6773 on the rear making it an A-B-B-A set.

The #6789, along with #6862, are at the Monticello Illinois railway museum, in 1954 CN paint, along with recently donated CN #102.

Love these old Alcos, even if they look odd with ditch lights. The horns are such a sweet memory, too! You got some nice compositions and the old Burlington domes were a treat. Reminds me of riding Southern's Crescent and riding in the dome car on a couple of trips as a kid in the early 70's when Amtrak had taken over just about everywhere else. Good stuff, Scott (will check out your stills, as well).

For something that makes a ton of racket when its under load, Alcos are surprisingly sneaky when they are at idle 😂 I have noticed this while chasing a Minnesota Commercial RS-27 , and an RS-18u. No diesel sounds whatsoever till the throttle is bumped. They just sort of snarle for a seond or two then turbo whistle back down to silence. Such an amazing sound. It always seems like Alcos are bored while pulling trains 😂

Interesting Depot's a nice Scenic right of way. Why can't everything at a grade crossing look so nice?

@ 5:42 the distortion from the horn is horrendous back away from the locomotive a bit, or one day you'll blow the input amplifier and lose your sound input, for some reason the audio limiter is not working and is letting too much sound through.

I think 6777's Horn kinda sounds like the oldest ghost horn in the world. ( Here is this Part of video 2:13 -2:21)

The valley lost all their railroaders recently. It wont be too long before the IRS comes knocking.National Park will eventually turn the line into another redundant trail.Someone should lock up the idiots in the office over there before its all gone.
