Just fixed my mom’s washer thanks to you! 20+ year old Whirlpool Inglis still going strong. A word of caution to those newbies like me, DO NOT accidentally put your new motor coupling on the water pump side of the motor. Ended up having to use a 3 jaw puller to remove it.

Thanks for showing it running with the problem. The noise helped confirm. I had a look at another video and the coupler had disintegrated, I had a quick look underneath mine and the coupler seemed fine, I tried to spin it and again it looked fine. Having another look after seeing your video, I can see that it's actually cracked and is broken, part ordered. Hopefully that's the only issue, the agitator seems to be fairly locked up.

Thanks for this yeah, the motor was a little bit difficult to get back on but blocking it up putting the bottom bracket on first and using pliers for the top and leaning it back helped. Great video. I love this great puzzle.

Excellent video Scott, My whirlpool is 1983 model. Does the frame slide out the same way as seen in your video? Tonight the machine stopped agitating and spinning. Prior for many weeks it would agitate with a cracking sound, and mostly only agitate in one direction.This problem would be made worse when machine was fully loaded, and improved with a very light load. Does it sound like the motor coupler was partially damaged and now it completely broke? Thanks much for your easy to understand video!!

I changed the coupler . Machine does not start on its own. It starts if I go underneath and move the coupler forward or backward. If I lift the lid , it stops but does not start back on its own. I have to help it.

The motor might be worn out. Can you try changing the motor capacitor ? They’re pretty cheap.

The motor hums and works when I assist it by going underneath and actually turning turning the coupler (motor) clockwise or anti-clockwise. It gets to the end of the cycle but does not start or if I lift the lid it quite rightly stops but does not restart. My next move is to change the pump. I notice a drip of water coming through where it fits onto the shaft on the motor , when I had the pump off

Thanks for the video! I learned "trim plates". I learned how the ("clips"?) are inserted that keep the ("body"?) onto the chassis. I reached under the body to remove the clips not knowing that I was loosening the body. They make a racket when you push them off while reaching underneath. Any chance of buying THE REPAIR MANUAL? NOT the installation manual. A while back I had a different Whirlpool and one day it filled with water and then stopped working. I used a garden hose to siphon the water out and bought the Whirlpool that I have now. Prior to that I paid for an online appliance repair course and the person only said that a washer "is a tub with a hole in it". Then he shut down his site and I was out of money.

Upending my machine I could see the couple had broken. In the process of disassembly and replacement. The machine was in the place when I moved here and it nameplate is missing so the model number and age are unknown. But it is similar to the machine being worked on here. Now it is a matter of the the coupler fail from old age or a locked up transmission. Will find out tomorrow if the works or the old transmission is trashed.

Found the coupler rubber center came out fine. The two plastic sides of the coupler fell apart leaving metal centers stuck on the motor and transmission shafts. Looked like trying to pry out with a screwdriver would damage the bearing cap on the motor. Went to Advance Auto and bought a small $10 rear puller made mostly of sheet metal, lightweight use. Worked on motor fine and barely just fit to pull out the one on the transmission shaft. Tired now, maybe finish tomorrow. Maybe not, no wife to nag me and how many clean clothes does a bachelor need anyway.

Okay, coupler replaced and washer working but..... I just woulds not go back together as shown in this video or any of the others. Before the solution the problems - - - - Putting the motor back was largely skipped in the video. Trying to get the plastic prongs on the motor part of the coupler lined up with the slots in the rubber connector between the coupler halves is remarkably difficult. There is no way to see if they are lined up and shafts of both halves spin freely. The motor weighs about 15 pounds and holding it one handed at an awkward angle while rotating the pump end of the motor shaft is made difficult because you cannot see if they line up. I managed to get it plugged into the two couplers by feel and luck one time. But it popped back out as I was trying to snap the motor upper holding bracket in place. Never got that to happen again. Additional difficulties are the motor holding bracket keep flopping in the way and snagging the motor. Same for the draining pump. Tried holding the upper motor back in place with twine and magnets. It and the lower bracket kept snagging the motor just enough to stop placement onto the two coupler halves. Tied the draining pump back with some twine also. Giving it thought I decided that gravity was against me and decided to make it work for me. Pulled the washer out an into a clear open space, laid it down on it's back with support to keep it from crushing the input and outflow hoses. Now that I had a better view I could see that the coupler half on the shaft to the transmission was not fully seated so seated same with hammer and socket. Now the motor alignment with the two coupler halves is better seen. Pulled the top motor mount bracket out of the way with large magnet. Gravity just pulled the motor in place. Then it was put the rest back together, push washer back into it's place and connect hoses to input and discharge at the wall and plug it in. Runs fine. If it breaks again will put it out of it's and mine misery and get a replacement.

There’s a good chance there’s something caught in the water pump that’s locking up the motor. Just need to remove the water pump and look for a sock or hair tie that’s caught there

HELP!!! My 2005 kenmore elite top loader spins but takes forever to get up to full speed and doesn’t get the clothes dry enough, so I always have to run the spin cycle 3 or more additional times no matter how big or small the load is. Any idea? Could it be a bad clutch, faulty motor capacitor, bad bearings, or weak motor possibly? Every google search leads me to nowhere.

I have this washer, 12 years old, fills with water then does absolutely nothing, no hum or whine. Bypassed lid switch to test, bypassed pressure switch, tested start capacitor (holds voltage), pulled water pump completely out and nothing stuck inside, motor spins freely. Wouldn't the washer hum if this is the problem? Otherwise stuck at determining motor or timer to be the cause.
