If you’re starting your bike and low on fuel... and have to give your bike some throttle to keep it running and from dying.... BAD Fuel Pump. Nice explanation of standard troubleshooting tips. One correction... at the 15 minute mark of your video you essentially replace your fuse with your ohm meter. You should never have current applied to any circuit that you are attempting to check for resistance. If you turn your key on, that is exactly what will happen. Otherwise you will have an open circuit until you turn the key on, as evident from your test...

easier to tell when its bad when its fully done for.. harder to know when its going bad. and still able to keep restarting and runs good most the time.. im hoping im having a bad fuel pump issue.. it will stall on me.. i get these stutters / misfires sometimes.. other times it runs like a champ.. but if it does attempt to stall. i notice the engine still on but when i try to give it fuel nothing happen then it will stall.. after that it usually take a couple tries to get it to start up to maybe a minute or so.. then it will start again.. and then maybe fine for rest of ride or keep happening randomly... its a pain..so not even sure if its the fuel pump.. i order a spark plug a fuel filter a fuel pump and a injector.. hopefully it fix it. i hasnt stranded me yet and i still ride it but ya knock on wood its all i got.. lol gotta wait for parts and take it to shop.. i never changed all that stuff before and dont have a manual for my bike.. i have around 25k on my bike in around 3 years now and never had any issues like this.. so im just guessing. though someone was saying a faulty wire or water in the system can do the same.. so hopefully i didnt buy a couple hundred in parts for nothing.. but its never bad to put new parts on i guess. luckily grom parts are a little cheaper then bigger bikes. today on ride to work work fine full way on last turn into housing complex it stall out.. when i was leaving it stalled once.. as soon as i got on main road it drive normal rest of ride.. just saying how wierd its acting.. other day died twice on ride to work.. some days doesnt do it..

Is it possible to have a seized fuel pump after not being started for 2.5 years, stored in an unheated garage? On my 2007 SV650, I have continuity on the fuse, hearing relay clicking, TB valves doing their thing, cranks fine, no codes...but definitely no priming sound either. After letting it soak in fresh gas and seafoam, I'm thinking to try jumping the pump directly via the connector to the pump. Think it's worth a shot to confirm if fuel pump issue? @svcruza2 жыл бұрын
The Gen 3 was the first of the ZX-10's to use the secondary injectors. With 8 injectors, the top 4 pick up in the high RPMs while the lower set drops out. You are having a fueling issue my friend. Either a fuel pump or fuel flow problem. If the secondary (high rpm) injectors dont have the proper flow AND pressure, the engine will top out at a certain RPM. The primary injectors start to shut down at around 8k RPM while the secondary injectors start to increase at that point. There's a crossover range around that mark where one shuts down and the other picks up as the RPMs increase. My opinion bro, your pump is failing so change that and be sure to change your air filter, these bike love to breath! Pumps are usually are $50 and get a new fuel filter as well. Tip: while the tank is off, clean it and wash it out. Be sure there's no sediments that have collected at the bottom over the years. Hope this helps dude.

@@donmo625 ok so from what I understand, it sounds as though the problem isnt consistant so your fuel pump should be fine. All signs point to a fuel pressure regulator failure. Spray some starter fluid in the intake and see if the bike will bark. If it does, then that means you have a fuel delivery problem so the next easy thing to check is the fuel pump relay. Tap it a few good times with like a lighter or pocket knife. Enought to break up the carbon on the points in the relay. You can put your finger on the relay at the same time you turn on the key and feel for a click in the relay. Check that first before diving into a new fuel pump. Hope this help brother.

@svcruza Жыл бұрын
Okay well I've got some questions first to try to determine what all is wrong with it, that bike is fuel injected so if you put new plugs into the bike my real question is do you by chance happen to have a trouble code that's coming up on the screen? Does the bike have any hard time actually starting or turning over? Have you checked your battery to see if you have the correct voltage on the battery you should have a minimum of 12 V a maximum of about 14 V. When was the last time you fired up the bike and actually took it for a ride? Has the bike been sitting for awhile for the winter and this is the first time you're trying to ride it after the winter because it could be possible you may have bad gas. Do you know if the fuel pump is actually turning on based upon the three easy ways list in the video. So if you could please give me the full rundown of what condition the bike is in when was the last time you rode the bike. And when you try to start it does it stumble before starting? Because a lot of things could lead to this problem.
@svcruza Жыл бұрын
Another thing that I was just thinking about is you might have a clogged up fuel filter which the filter I think on those bikes is connected to the bottom of the fuel pump so if the fuel is fairly old or you haven't changed it in a while it's very possible that the pickup fuel screen or the fuel filter could be clogged preventing the proper fuel pressure to allow the bike to run or stay running. This is a very common problem
@mahersoukieh6464 Жыл бұрын
@@svcruza the battery is also new and right for the bike .. and im using the bike daily what ever the weather is .. actually it was happening when starting up the very cold weather… but now is happening no matter the weather is … and this problem it starts be worse after oil and oil filter and air filter change 2 weeks before
@svcruza Жыл бұрын
Okay well if you're saying all the usual maintenance items have been done then the only thing that I can think of on a fuel injected bike like that would be either bad fuel which you might be able to help it along with some octane booster about 1 full bottles worth, you might have a clogged up fuel filter which is inside the fuel tank connected to the bottom of the fuel pump, or it is very possible that your fuel pressure regulator is going bad. Now if the bike just happened to start having these issues out of nowhere and it was not a progressive problem then I would probably turn my attention to the CDI box.
@svcruza Жыл бұрын
CDI boxes or otherwise known as capacitive discharge ignition, is and can be a culprit that is very difficult to diagnose and can go bad at anytime. Symptoms include lagging power, misfires or backfires, cylinders just dropping out altogether, or a bike having a difficult time starting, not able to have operation at high RPM basically allowing the bike to run in a limp mode. It can also have an extremely rough idle or possibly canceling out one or more cylinders entirely.

Hey I have an 07 zx6 r, the bike was running good, it did feel like the full power was not there. My clutch cable broke so I replaced it once I did, now my bikes having a hard time picking up speed. Its like after 1st gear I go into 2nd i cant pass 70 mph, my rpm will end up redline if I full throttle trying to speed passed 70mph
@svcruza2 жыл бұрын
The 4 things I would check would be easiest to most difficult to repair or access. 1. I would first check the fuel pump itself and make sure the fuel filter screen at the bottom is clean and not clogged with junk. That motor has 2 sets of fuel injectors, the primary injectors operate from idle to 8k rpm and the secondary injectors transition from 8k rpm and up. So check your fuel flow. Also check your fuel pressure regulator because that will restrict fuel flow as well. 2. Check the fuel injectors and make sure they are operating as designed. 3. Take a look at the clutch plates to see if they need replacement. 4. Make sure there isnt anything obstructing air flow, check the filter because a clogged filter will hinder performance. Hopefully this helps, if there is anything else I can come up with I'll let you know. Good luck brother. 😎

If the pump is making a high wine noise at the start up it should be ok, because that is the pump priming the fuel system, they are usually pretty quiet. That's the first thing I would check is the ignition system and take a second look at your kill switches such as the clutch handle kill switch, or even check your oil pressure sensor because that is tied directly to the computer which shuts off your fuel injectors. Make sure you dont have any corroded or loose connections. It's time to go through that bike with a fine tooth comb. Check the condition of your stator since that is what supplies spark to the coils.

I started bike up and the same thing happened 1-2 minutes later again. I pulled it to my mechanic and still don't know what caused this. Since the bike starts and can go little, do you think that the problem is the fuel pump filter?
@svcruza3 жыл бұрын
My solution was in the next video, I ended up replacing the fuel pressure regulator but in order to do that, I had to purchase the black cartridge that the fuel pump lives in. The fuel pressure regulator is part of that cartridge which was like $257 from partzilla.com. If the regulator is stuck open or closed, it will force the bike into a stall with either a too lean mixture or too rich. It wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter screen while you've got the pump out. Let me know if you still have issues because I have many more ideas...lol.

@svcruzaАй бұрын
@@DTA555. if it starts then that means just the right mixture is getting through the carburetor for it to run, however if it bogs when you give it throttle, that means the mixture isnt right...its either getting too much air and not enough fuel or too much fuel and not enough air. Sounds like you might want to clean the jets in the carburetor, make sure the choke is set correctly, and check your air filter. There could be another issue but let's check that first since that's the most common problem when it comes to bogging.

He bought a battery also but I have to take it back because it is not good. But I have ridden the first generation and it was no different than my Cbr900rr except for the cornering. But he said this one is better than the first model and air filter is new so it is the carbs I can hear the fuel pump and injection turn on but I am still walking through the bike and cleaning up everything then I will get to the carbs. @@DTA555. after reading what you just mentioned about the bike sitting for so long I would strongly suggest taking the tank off flushing the tank entirely and replacing all of the gas lines because that fuel that would sit in there for so long has a tendency to build up a layer of varnish on the inside of the fuel lines that will break off or flake off when you get the vehicle started and it will find its way into the fuel bowl and then write up inside the fuel jets clogging them up all over again, so I would strongly suggest replacing the fuel lines in completely cleaning out the inside of the gas tank before you even think about trying to start that sucker.

@svcruza10 ай бұрын
Every electric motor has windings inside it. Windings are the electrical conductor in the motor between the housing and the rotor. So test for a short to ground in the circuit or and open short in the windings. Remember it's one continuous wire wrapped hundreds of times and if the power can pass through them, they will create resistance or ohms, aka closed loop. If there is a break in that wire anywhere, then the resistance stops and now the signal is broken or OL for "open loop". On a properly working electric motor you want resistance.
@svcruza10 ай бұрын
Now if you are checking the fuel pump relay then yes, with the system turned off and no power, the relay should read OL or open loop. When you turn the key on, then the system is energized and it closes that relay to provide power to your pump. Key on=closed relay, Key off= open relay.
@svcruza10 ай бұрын
@@ponjax8190 dont forget check your relay....they have a tendency to get stuck due to carbon buildup on the contacts inside. If you can tap it on the top hard enough (like your knocking on someone's door) it should free up the relay and start working again. If that fixes the no start issue, it's time to replace the relay.

If there is fuel leaking from a carburetor, it is possible the float is stuck open and not shutting off the fuel flow OR there is something preventing the fuel needle cone from sealing off the fuel flow. Try this...drain the bowl on the rear carb to move the float and do this while the bike is running. Let it run for about 15 seconds then close the drain screw to the float bowl, then see if the leaking continues. If the leaking continues then either the flow level isnt set right or the carburetor gasket didnt seal or is damaged. Try these things and let me know what you find.

ok according to what you are saying, what i would do is check the charge on your battery with a miltimeter and see if you have a full 12volts. then next i would swap out the relay because it may be stuck open due to carbon buildup on the contacts inside. take the relay out and tap it on something to possibly knock it loose. if the bike starts working after that then you know that the relay was your issue. let me know what happens after you do this. this is a common issue with all relays.

If the engine starts and runs then your pump is working. If I'm not mistaken you have a fuel injection system (not carbureted) so if you are losing power or the power rolls on slower than usual, then I would look at a few things first before changing the pump. First i would put fresh 93 octane gas in it. You may have acquired bad fuel somewhere or water in the tank. (Shit happens to us all lol.) Check all your fluids and make sure they are good. Check the condition of your spark plugs. Those are the easy things. Now for the difficult parts that also have direct effects on throttle power. Check your fuel filter, it may be restricted and not allowing proper fuel flow. Check your fuel pressure regulator, if it's bad it wont allow proper idle, acceleration, causes backfiring,misfiring, and all around irritated to the point you will want to sell the bike.🤣 been there. Check the next video up the list from this one and I'll show you what I mean. I hope this helps. If all else fails switch out to like a Kemso fuel pump like I did or get a new one to be sure. They aren't expensive, just annoying to change.

You can ohm out a fuel pump or check its continuity. The ohm test is most effective because it will let you know the condition of the motor windings in the pump. It will let you know if they are grounded out or not. If you get (OL) or (open loop) that means the motor is bad. If you get a reading with numbers for example: 0.0002 or 0.0001, you're getting resistance which means the motor is good. Hope this helps dude.

You'd be surprised how many times I hear about this issue and your situation. From my personal experience, when you removed the gas tank, you moved the fuel lines and shifted around some old sediments in the bottom of your tank which broke off and flowed right into the main jets of your carburetors. My suggestion, drain and scrub out the bottom of your tank, (no shortcuts), clean your fuel petcock (if you have one. Replace ALL fuel lines (because the old ones have sediments crusted to the inner walls), and clean all carburetors and make sure they are syntheticed when you reassemble the bike. After that your bike should run better than before. When you rebuild your carburetors, write down the number of turns for each set screw or idle adjustment screws because that is super important. If its bogging out then its the pump. The original fuel pump that was on my bike, I dont know if its been replaced before my bike is a 86' I believe kawasaki vulcan 1500 . I know that pump was going bad, when I put after market fuel pump on my bike actually ran good on the highway then acted up . Those things don't hold up. If you watch motorcycle MD the young guy which works on Honda bikes only but he will tell you that he has a 5 gallon bucket of after market fuel pumps that people put on they're bikes. He said its just better to stay with original. Yes its cheaper but your better off getting the right one that will last a lot longer .

Another thing is that I have to get carburetor work done again with someone new. I had mine taken apart, get cleaned really good then had new parts put on from over seas. Couple weeks later I looked down randomly and seen fuel dripping just barely from my right side carb bowl. The guy said it was probably a vent thing. Idk. Never took it back to him. That guy races his bike on track, said that by time he was done with my bike that it would be wicked fast. Wished that was somewhat true lol. I found another guy that works on older bikes just like mine so hopefully I can get it going by spring.

I’m surprised your bike wasn’t running funny before it crapped out. My Cbr600rr won’t go over 11k rpms but it still runs. But it’s definitely my pump it’s trash smh
