A lady at the post office gave me that tip several years ago. I was mailing a framed cross Stitch picture and the only box I could find that it fit in was way too tall for it and then it was going to cost me extra for the oversized box, like $25 total to mail it. I hadn't even collected that much in shipping from the buyer. She suggested cutting the box down which I did and it ended up costing me more like $12 to mail it because it wasn't an oversized box even though it was the same weight.

Great ideal for seller but idea of the bubble wrap is to protect the goods. But yeah I hear you filling a half a box full of it is too costly. I don’t get the knife part though. For me any sharp knife is fine. Spyderco, or dollar store straight edge will do also

Great tip, that actually reduces your shipping cost too. Anyone can try it next time they ship something, get the quoted shipping cost for your box then increase the height of the box and get the quote again. You will see the cost goes up, of course set the height back to the correct height so you only pay what you are shipping. This works for UPS, Fedex and USPS. If you are shipping FBM you can save a few dollars making a box to fit the item you are selling, don't take too much time creating a new box.

The hubby uses this tiny knife he got from Dicks's - haha. Thank goodness he does all the de-stickering. Thanks for the tip - we also have a box sizer, but in a pinch, you can also score the box with the end of the tape measure. I've been known to cut up my boxes to size with a steak knife - not a good option - think I'm gonna get me a scotty peeler. Thanks again!
