2011 Toyota RAV4 Sport with 219K, still going! I change the oil and top it off in between because it'll burn oil for sure, but the only time it's ever left me stranded - is when I forgot to check the oil level like a doofus, low and behold - needed some oil! ;-) I'm determined to drive it until I can't anymore. The car I learned to drive on and my parents gave it to me, 9 years later and thus far, going strong. It does make a shuttering noise occasionally when you accelerate which I'm told is the torque converter and switching gears, but not something that's mechanically wrong. At least, that's what a mechanic told me, lol! If Scotty or anyone knows differently, feel free to share! I'm the opposite of mechanical, sadly. Thank God for this channel.

Not many people can inform and entertain in the wonderful way Scotty does. Passing on the lifetime of experience with total honesty is so valuable. If only politicians listened to Scotty the economy would run better in the UK and the USA. The only other mechanic I know with the skill and knowledge of real old reliable vehicles was trained in the British army for a whole year full time before being considered a mechanic. He runs a Toyota Hilux from the late 80s. I wish Scotty trained mechanics so honest skillfull mechanics were easier to find.

Modern toyota are reliable compared to other car manufacturers. But new toyotas will have problems because of more and more technology and sensors in it. Electronic parts tend to fail before mechanical parts. The other reason be smaller engines in new vehicles over stressed with turbos. Simplicity is the key for longer life of an engine. Btw same goes for life 😅. If want a longer happy life keep it simple.

You can stop the rust by spraying your used motor oil on the underbody with a paint sprayer then drive down some dirt roads the dirt will stick to the oil and create a rust barrier. Learned that from the Canadians, no shop will do it though due to pollution have to do it yourself.

That's because it's a stupid idea. No drip stuff is best and you can do it every 2 years. I'd only do it 3 or 4 times because as you said the dust sticks to it and makes an oily layer protecting it.

Rust Check I think still has outlets to have your auto sprayed it's about 150 to 200 Canadian funds approx per year I recommend doing this around October if you like in Canada USA clean it well under carriage during summer season to ensure all salt and dirt from wheel wells and steel frame if yours has that. Or you can just buy 4 to 6 cans of Rust check oil and spray it yourself.

Oddly enough, the front seats on all three are the exact same size. The Rav4's I tried actually had more room than the Highlander and Sequoia, the latter of which my head was literally cranked at a 45 degree angle touching the ceiling. Japanese sized cars sold in America. Don't be only 5'10" or you're forced to buy some crappy Ford or beast size GMC or Chevy.

I'm the lucky owner of a RAV4 III, 2009 D-CAT, and it runs like a swiss Clockwork. And it has a built-in rear view camera which splits the rear view mirror in half. On the left side, you get the image of the backup camera, the right side is normal mirror. It's a real great car, but the transmission often rattles, when in 2000 RPM.

Just putting winter tires on the front and not on the back is inviting disaster. Should always run same treads on all four. The rear does much more than just roll as you said Scotty. In winter if you need to brake rather quickly with non winter treads on the rear they are far more likely to slide you around sideways.

I say this too every time he gives this horrible advice. Completely moronic thing to say. That rear end will slide out so quick when there's such a difference in grip from front to back. Terrible advice and he's said it half a dozen times at least.

I have a 2011 Rav 4 (base) regular. Mine was made in Canada. I just got rats a couple months ago. I don't know if I have a "beauty cover"-- will try to figure that out.A timing chain makes so much sense. At 80,000 had to get a new alternator--nothing but routine maintenance other than that. I'm wanting a newer car w/better a/c and back up/side cameras, but thinking of keeping this one as a back up. Now I know I can let it sit ok, I'll definitely keep it. I'll use it when the new one breaks down, I have out-of-town visitors, and as a deterrent to home burglars when I'm not home. Best financial decision I ever made. Friends have gone through 3 cars in the time I've had this one.

When I bought my Toyota, I made certain that it was made in Japan (you can tell by looking at the VIN) and manual trans, manual windows, manual locks, manual everything, no air conditioning.... 16 years later, still no probs. other than I had to replace the stereo speakers and the keys are made of metal that is too soft so had to replace one that wore out. Replaced the brake pads once so far (another plus of a manual trans).

I appreciate older vehicles with style and class. Some of the really nice ones were actually made in the mid 60s to mid 70s american autos.
