Oh this brings back memories! A lady who was like a grandmother to me had a Valiant, 1964? She was the original owner bought it new, and it was still gorgeous in mint condition in the 1980's when she gave to her 35 year old son who then got in a wreck with it. It was a deep black cherry, maroon color. Best car she ever owned. You're right is was a car for women, the men just trashed them! Women never give your children your best car 😊

I worked on many police packages. The 318 4V was an odd but durable engine. The heads were from a 360. To time the ignition you HAD to have an advance timing light. I think it was around 20-23 degrees initial. Take care from Oklahoma Mike

I had one of those. There was a hose running from top of valve cover to the air filter. There was so much blow by that the filter would turn oily and black in few weeks. So I unhooked it and pointed it down the side of the engine. It smoked like a small muffler... This was decades before they introduced yearly emission and safety testing.

My dad was a Plymouth guy and I learned to drive in his 66 Fury with the 318. My experiences working on cars began on cars of the era. So much fun to work on the buddies cars back then, acquired the tools, some Chilton’s, taught each other and got to know a lot of salvage yards. Learned a lot too from our mistakes.

Lol, I would've raced him on the highway with my 66 Lincoln continental floating boat. Reliable cars. For anyone looking for an inexpensive, reliable car, CK out the Lincoln mark viii. You may see them slammed down due to bad airbags. The stealer shops wanted WAY too much $$$ to replace them. However a noob, could do it yourself in a couple hours. No need to convert to shocks. That big V8 if your nice, can get 25 mpg city 30 Highway with the AC on & the sunroof open. They are ugly by some people's standards, but I loved mine. Maintenance was ez. & Inexpensive as it was extremely reliable. 181.1? At Bonneville Stock. When the Ford engineers got back from Bonneville, the Ford brass admonished them " WE DONT WANT TO BE KNOWN AS A HOT ROD COMPANY! on another note, a friend Rip had the pleasure of going to the Ford Proving grounds, As the Cattlecrack fell apart, the Lincoln just kept going and going..That holds true for most Lincoln's today. They really do make a comfortable reliable car. I've never had a problem. It helps when you have a Good mechanic in the family, to ask about the best year Lincoln's. Anyhow. I love this channel. Scotty makes me laugh, ,& God knows, Americans need that & a little maintenance help sure doesn't hurt.🙏💕💪✌️.

Speaking of bigger cars vs. smaller cars, back in the day, I owned a Ford LTD ex CT State Police Car w/ a 460 c.i.d engine that tipped the scales at around 3 tons & was stopped at a light. A 2 door Oldsmobile ran into the back of my car & I barley felt or heard it. Expecting the worst ,I got out & my real metal bumper only suffered a scratch, 1 scratch I was kinda amazed. The Olds faired far worse, whole front end was pushed back to the radiator & the top of the rubber bumper cover got shredded. 😲😲😲

The Plymouth Valiant, Dodge Dart series of compact cars were simply brilliant. I had one that came stock with the large version of the slant 6 that was used in Chryco trucks. With radial tires, it handled very well in the twisties. In the winter, with 4 snow tires it was like a tractor - went anywhere/everywhere in conditions that defeated most vehicles except 4x4's. On a deserted country road, the police once clocked me at over 100 mph! It was economical and a cinch to work on. Parts were ubiquitous, and it was easy to work on. The interior was spartan, but very functional. It was toasty-warm in harsh winters, and very well ventilated in summer. I drove long distances in a Valiant; it was much more than something to haul groceries. Until the little, efficient Toyotas and Nissans began arriving in swarms, these emanations of Chrysler Corp. were the most functional, utilitarian bulletproof vehicles in North America. With some reasonable care and timely oil changes, the slant six ran on and on forever - just purring away. Was it exciting? Emphatically no! It was like the old, white family fridge that ran beyond common memory without ever failing. It was a tool ... a brilliant appliance in a class of its own!

Scotty, In the early 1970's l owned a '1962 Valiant S Series here in Australia. They were assembled here for a year. Manual transmission ( 'Three on the tree') fabulous 225 Slant six. Drove it over large parts of our continent. Fabulous car, tons of style, never let me down. It did wear out rings; possibly because the oils back then weren't all that fantastic and temperatures in Oz can get very hot, especially when crossing the Nullarbor Desert to the west (In those days it included a section of 352 miles hazardous unmade road ( just red bulldust, huge potholes, carwrecks, camels, wild donkeys etc). In 1969 in the Netherlands l also had a long term lend of a Plymouth, that looked just like yours but was a coupe with a sunroof and it had a less powerful and smaller Slant Six. Very reliable, took it all over Western Europe then. Most American makes had a good reputation in the 1950's and '60's, but it declined in the '70's I still love those old Chryslers today, especially the R and S series of the early sixties! Chrysler did an economy car in 1985. It was called Omni America. It was a Dodge or Plymouth with NO accessories. I forget how low the price was. there were only a few options. Power brakes, power steering and an FM radio. It sold well below any other car I was aware of. It was front drive with four speed trans. Detroit will probably not offer a bare bones car again, not enough mark up.

This Valiant isn't bad looking but I remember the early 60's Valiants were butt ugly. I had both the 318 V8 and the slant 6 in pickups...Both engines were very good.

I had an early Econoline, 1963, with 225/70 radials, and Armstrong steering.... Yep, talk about parallel parking! My arms increased a couple of sizes, regular shirt sleeves just didn't fit;-)

Small world, isn't it ? One of my co-worker got a 64 Valiant for free. It was in pretty decent shape and, gave it to one of his friend's daughter. It's her first car and, daddy isn't exactly poor so, it will be put back together perfectly. I wonder if she had time to make it safe for this season. Mind you, she only got it 7 weeks ago.

I wouldn't own a '60's 4 door. I bought a '65 Chevy Biscayne with a 283 and 3 speed. The previous owner had installed a Hurst Floor shifter. I installed a 550hp 454, Richmond 6 speed, Disc Brakes and changed the 12 bolt 3:08's to 3:42 posi. I hate under dash gauges so I removed the factory am radio and installed Amp, Oil Pressure and Water temp gauges in that spot so it looked factory. I hid the AM/FM/CD in the glove compartment.

The old heads, "Six in a row will go!" Clifford header and an Offy 4bbl manifold. And Isky sure knows how to grind a cam for the slant six. Drop in a msd/mallory unilite electronic ignition with hotter coil. You might need a stronger pressure plate for the extra torque!

Since Geandpa was a Mopar man, I know the 225 slant six well. My first car was a 75 dart that I totalled. Grandpa sold me Grandma's 72 duster slant 6 that had around 215,000 on it but burned oil. I betcha' dimmed farmer is still driving it in Iowa where I sold it. Good times!!

My aunt had a Plymouth valiant, she bought it new. In the 18 months she owned it, she suffered from a cracked water pump, a leak in radiator, a blown rear end, and finally the driveshaft fell to the road while she was parked at a red light getting to move with a big clunk. It came apart at the gearbox. She got rid of it right after that

Scotty . I have and 2016 Ford F-150 with the " Naturally Aspirated Engine. " 3.5 L engine. I'm getting rough idle, reduced power and poor mileage. So of course,I pulled the Pcv , replaced it. I pulled the censor out ,spayed it with approved spray. I'm at a loss,I value your opinion. There's also oil inside the intake manifold. Please help me. Long time following you !

Driven about fifteen vehicles that are three on the tree. Figured up is reverse and first down like a automatic. Oldest late forties and newest early 80's G10. Don't know how a floor shifter is any easier. Just different.
