One of your best videos yet and a perfect way to end the weekend... Wet boots can be cold in the snow, but at the end of the day I put on a dry pair of socks and put my feet inside plastic bags before putting my boots back on. Just the kind of soft fruit/vege bags you get from the supermarket. Your feet dont sweat because of the cold and I remove them before hiking the next day.

Great video mate! I love how you can compare Aussie winter camping to most of the overseas ones. In Australia most of the snow areas are rugged and remote with next to no fire wood, and what is there is hardwood that you can't really process without a chainsaw. Meanwhile overseas they drag in a hot tent and a stove in a sled and in like a hour they process 3-4 trees with a handsaw and have a roaring fire all night long in a heated tent. Unless you go super hardcore like Xander Budnick 😲. Love your stuff mate . Beautiful shots!!

@nicolasbertin85522 жыл бұрын
Hehe when it's going into Spring, a good tactic is to leave the snowshoes off until you absolutely can't do without. It's often hard snow, you'll be more stable without them. Maybe just some spikes would be enough. And if you wanna go down on soft snow, you need to plant your heels in the snow on each step, hard. Otherwise you're just gonna fall forward. Another idea is to do switchbacks in the snow, otherwise some people do actually ski a bit. But the worst thing to do is going sideways, they're not skis you can hurt your ankle easily. Snowshoes are good on flat terrain or uphill. They're awful to traverse a slope, cross country skis are much better for that. And uphill, skis with skins on are less tiring. Do be careful with sunburns, they can be pretty awful with snowhiking. I have a full beard and once had my lips burnt and the underside of my nose burnt. You think of protecting yourself from the sun, but you forget about the reflection on the snow. Every bit of skin (and lip) exposed is at risk.
